‘Only Fools And Horses’ Gets The Musical Treatment In 2019

Published

on

It’s been 15 years since Only Fools And Horses officially ended, and fans still sing its praises today. With everything getting rebooted today, fans have wanted the same to happen with the show. Fortunately, Only Fools And Horses will return, but not in the way fans probably hoped.

Only Songs And Dances

If you’re looking to revisit the world of Only Fools And Horses, a theater production will cure your desire. Only Fools and Horses: The Musical will make its debut on February 9th at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London.

BBC

This musical isn’t a brand new idea from some random screenwriter. The idea of a musical came from Only Fools And Horses creator John Sullivan. “Back in 2010 my Dad had been toying with the possibility of a stage show but sadly didn’t get the chance to commit to it. In 2015 we met with the producer, Phil McIntyre, and agreed to develop the idea,” his son Jim stated on the Shazam Productions website.

Taking Over Iconic Roles

Songwriter Paul Whitehouse will deliver 20 original songs for this production. Aside from writing music, he’s also performing as Grandad. Ryan Hutton, who recently appeared in I Am Vengeance, will portray Rodney Charlton Trotter.

BBC

Tom Bennett, who earned praise for his work in Love & Friendship, will portray Derek Edward “Del Boy” Trotter.

Nothing To Fear

Bringing a beloved sitcom to the stage can be a hard sell for those fans. Whitehouse assures that it’ll be 100% faithful to what people fell in love with years ago. “We’re very conscious of the Only Fools legacy and that it’s so fondly remembered by people of almost all ages, so we’ve tried to incorporate everyone’s favourite moments from the TV shows and of course, all the great charactersbut this time it’s with songs,” he told DailyMail.

BBC

The production will conclude on June 22. Tickets are on sale right now.
