Awesome One-Season Shows You Can Stream Online

Published

on

A tragic thing about television is seeing a beloved show get canned after one season. While you know it’s a ratings game, you still feel sad knowing your favorite characters are gone. Over the years, many great shows were stuck with the one-season treatment. Luckily, these five series can be viewed at any time thanks to various streaming services.

Firefly: Sci-Fi Cult Classic

Firefly is the only show on this list to evolve into a franchise after its cancellation. The sci-fi show, which originally aired on Fox, introduced the world to Homeland star Morena Baccarin. The show’s massive fan base led to the film Serenity which continued the saga of Mal & Co. You can view Firefly on Hulu.

Trophy Wife: Cute Family Sitcom

Trophy Wife was a surprise hit with criticism when it debuted in 2013. Many people adored Malin Åkerman’s chemistry with her co-stars. Unfortunately, the ABC sitcom failed to gain a strong fanbase. One reason why it didn’t work out was its strange timeslot. Instead of pairing it with Modern Family, the network placed it after action series, Agents of SHIELD. The show is currently available to watch for free via the ABC app.

Constantine: DC Comic Anithero

NBC’s Constantine, which is based on the DC Comics antiheroshowed so much promise but failed to capture the ratings. Fans of the character rallied to get The CW to revive the show. While they didn’t do that, Constantine would make appearances on Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. CW Seed has the entire season available for free streaming.

Freaks And Geeks: Coming-Of-Age Comedy Classic

One comedy-drama managed to kickstart the careers of Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Linda Cardellini. Freaks and Geeks was given the rough task of building a fan base on Saturday nights. While the show gained around 7 million viewers a week, it wasn’t enough for NBC. The series did gain three Emmy nominations after its cancellation, though. Freaks and Geeks can be streamed on Netflix.

My So-Called Life: Claire Danes, Need We Say More?

Before Claire Danes earned a star on the Walk of Fame, she earned praise with My So-Called Life. The ABC teen drama tackled issues such as homophobia and school violence. Due to it being placed against heavy hitters like Friends and Martin, the ratings were low. The show gained Danes her first Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. My So-Called Life can be streamed on Hulu and the ABC app.
