Still Own Your Old Disney VHS Tapes? They Might Be Worth $17,500

Before the era of Netflix and even DVDs, kids had to watch their favorite Disney movies on VHS tapes. They owned every copy. If you’re like the rest of us, you probably still own the old VHS tapes. Those tapes are now worth up to $17,500 on eBay. Who knew they were worth that much?
A Nostalgic Collection
There are many items from our childhoods we hate to give away. They hold nostalgic value. Adults still cherish their beloved Barbie dolls, stuffed teddy bears, Hot Wheels, baby dolls, dollhouses, and playsets. It’s hard to let go of these items, but sometimes, it eventually has to happen. You have to donate or sell them, so new generations of children can enjoy them.
This applies to the classic Disney VHS tapes. No one wants to get rid of their VHS copies of Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and others. They have too much sentimental value. After all, you probably spent multiple hours in front of the television, laughing and singing along with your favorite characters.
If you thought there couldn’t be a price on these old VHS tapes, think again. They have more value than what it seems. People love to collect VHS copies of movies, especially Disney films. As the years progressed, the value of these movies has increased. The VHS tapes were inexpensive in the 1990s, but now they’re worth more money than you can imagine. There are plenty of eager buyers on eBay who would pay practically anything to get their hands on rare copies of Disney movies. These eBay sellers clearly know what they’re doing. They’re in the right business.
In Fairly Good Condition
One eBay seller is selling 10 ‘Rare Black Diamond Disney’ films, including childhood favorites like Cinderella, Bambi, Aladdin, and 101 Dalmatians. These tapes were produced over 20 years ago, but they’re still in good condition. The seller included a description of the collection, explaining that the cases are “decent with some minor cracking and yellow from age.” To many people, the tapes are considered “ancient,” but they’re still great collections.
Of course, the films aren’t perfect. They’re not new, so it’s to be expected that the pre-owned tapes show serious signs of use. They were well-loved throughout the years. But overall, the collection is a great set. For $17,500, a lucky Disney fan can buy the nostalgic collection.
Sell Individual Copies, Too
eBay sellers aren’t just selling entire collections to earn money. Instead, many of them simply sell one high-quality VHS tape and still earn more money than they could have dreamed about. One seller offered a rare edition of The Little Mermaid with a “buy it now” price of $9,900. But why is the price so high?
The seller claimed the VHS copy included a rare “first issue” label and that the front cover design has since been discontinued. If you’re aware of the world of antiques and have seen an episode of Pawn Stars, then it’s apparent that anything that has been discontinued immediately has more value. Buyers would love to spend $9,900 for a rare copy of Ariel and her friends who live “under the sea.” The rare copy of The Little Mermaid is said to also be a “Black Diamond” VHS tape. This means it was released between 1984 and 1993, making it even rarer.
Get To Work
It’s time to let go of your childhood. Be a brave princess [or prince] and figure out if the tapes in your collection are worth an extortionate value, like other sellers on eBay. Rare copies feature a special edition black diamond “Classics” logo on the spine of the case. These VHS copies were released between 1984 and 1993–a long, long time ago to today’s children. These special tapes could earn you enough money to afford a trip to Disney World, where you can make new memories as an adult Disney fan.
