Where’s Nina Dobrev Been Since ‘The Vampire Diaries’?

Published

on

Following a stint on Degrassi, Nina Dobrev gained international fame in The CW series The Vampire Diaries. In 2015, the actress shocked fans by leaving the series after season six. Fortunately, it’s been smooth sailing for the Toronto native. We look at where’s she been since exiting the popular drama.

Box Office Bonanza

Following The Vampire Diaries, Dobrev returned to the big screen with XXX: Return of Xander Cage. In the film, she portrays Cage’s technical support ally Becky Clearidge. “It’s so different than anything I’ve had the opportunity to play so far. Becky is smart and spunky and awkward and clumsy. And she dances to the beat of her own drum,” she told Refinery 29. Dobrev’s performance earned a Teen Choice Award nomination for Choice Movie Actress: Action.

Such A Horror

Diaries wasn’t the last time Dobrev sunk her teeth in the horror genre. In 2015, she starred in the horror comedy The Final Girls. Directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson, the film also starred Taissa Farmiga and Malin Åkerman. The Final Girls managed to be a big hit with various horror film festivals.

Taking The Lead Again

In 2018, it was revealed that Dobrev would have the starring role in CBS’ new sitcom Fam. The show follows Clem (played by Dobrev) having to deal with her outrageous stepsister Shannon. “I was terrified when we filmed that first episode, but as the season progressed I got much more comfortable and really began to understand who Clem is,” she told TVLine. The show is currently running on CBS’ 2019 winter schedule.

Always Shark Week

Dobrev has been spending her time working with numerous charities. One that’s closest to her is Oceana, which helps protects sharks. “I’ve been fascinated by sharks for a while. They used to scare me, but once I realized what amazing creatures they are, I knew I needed to lend my voice to Oceana’s campaign,” she stated in a press release.

Back To Degrassi

In 2018, Dobrev appeared in Drake’s music video for “I’m Upset.” The visual found the Canadian rapper reuniting with his former Degrassi co-stars. “Getting to roam the halls of Degrassi after over a decade was surreal and bittersweet. Couldn’t be more grateful to Aubrey for reuniting us one final time as adults and throwing the party that our teenage selves could only have dreamt of,” she told Variety.
