Nicolas Cage To Star In Richard Stanley Film Adaptation Of ‘Color Out Of Space’

2018 was one of Nicolas Cage’s best acting years in a while. Along with being Superman and Spider-Man, he wowed audiences with his performance in Mandy. For his next film, he’s teaming up with some good friends for another horror movie, this time with a dash of sci-fi.

The Space Between

It was announced that Cage and Mandy production company SpectreVision will join forces again for Color Out of Space. This will be a film adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft short story of the same name. The story has been through numerous film adaptations over the years. The most popular one is Boris Karloff’s Die, Monster, Die.

“Lovecraft is the dark father of modern horror, and we have been searching for an adaptation that captures the true scope of his cosmic dread for years,” stated SpectreVision co-founder Daniel Noah.

Back To The Director’s Chair

This adaptation will also be the first feature film for Richard Stanley in 20 years. The South African director burst onto the scene with Hardware and Dust Devil. This will be his second film adaptation in his career. In 1996, he wrote The Island of Dr. Moreau, which starred Val Kilmer and Marlon Brando. He was originally slated to direct the film, but he was fired a few days into shooting. Stanley became the subject of the 2014 documentary Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau.

In 2014, Stanley discussed his vision for the film to Entertainment Weekly. “There needs to be a scary Lovecraft movie. I want to make a bad trip film and ‘The Colour…’ definitely has what it takes to be a very, very bad trip indeed,” he said.

Ready To Roll

Elliot Knight, Julian Hilliard, Q’Orianka Kilcher, Joely Richardson, and Tommy Chong will join the cast. Filming is slated to begin later this month.

Cage will have a slew of movies releasing this year, including Running with the Devil and A Score to Settle. In 2020, he’ll star in the animated movie The Croods 2.
