Are Nicki Minaj and Cardi B Still Feuding? The Answer Is a Disappointing ‘Yes’

Published

on

Nicki Minaj and Cardi B are the two most famous female rappers in today’s music industry. Both have amassed great wealth and millions of fans. Unfortunately, these two talented and successful women will likely never be seen in collaboration. Through the years, the two have developed a feud that will be hard to dissolve.

Minaj Was Once Cardi B’s Inspiration

Nicki Minaj and Cardi B have gone from mutual inspirations to fast rivals in just a few years. Both have made snide comments and casual disses through their music, on social media, or in-person. However, the two used to be much more cordial. Cardi B, ten years Minaj’s junior, was once an avid fan of the rapper. But things changed much more quickly than the industry was ready for.

Minaj Uplifts Cardi, Says Their Beef Is “Silly” At First

At first, Nicki Minaj denied any real dispute. In her verse of Katy Perry’s “Swish Swish,” she sang, “Silly rap beefs just get me more checks,” insinuating that any trouble was a rumor that didn’t mean anything to her. Minaj even went so far as to congratulate Cardi on her Number 1 single “Bodak Yellow,” tweeting, “Congratulations to a fellow NEW YAWKA on a RECORD BREAKING achievement.”

Minaj Makes It Clear That She’s The Bigger Star

“Swish Swish” wasn’t the last we heard of the rappers’ feud through song lyrics. They were both invited to collaborate on rapper Quavo’s song “MotorSport.” Cardi B claimed she was invited by Quavo, while Minaj claimed it was her own idea to bring Cardi on the collab. Quavo also asked Minaj to change the original lyrics once Cardi accepted. The original verse had the line, “If Cardi the QB, I’m Nick Lombardi.” The lyrics were changed so as not to hurt the star’s ego, but it seemed to be too late for that.

All Bets Are Off At New York Fashion Week

The Cardi-Nicki drama peaked when footage was released by TMZ of Cardi B starting a brawl with Nicki’s entourage at a New York Fashion Week party. Cardi was seen screaming at Minaj and eventually threw her Christian Louboutin heels at the star. Cardi claimed the backlash was in response to Minaj insulting her choices as a mother. She wrote on Instagram, “…when you mention my child, you choose to like comments about me as a mother…all bets are f***ing off.”

Will They Make Up in Milan?

Though Nicki Minaj didn’t react to the outburst, either at the time of the event or later to the press, their longstanding rift seems to be holding strong. However, both were seen in Milan for fashion week, and seem to be maintaining an uncomfortable, but respectful distance. Maybe one day these two women will work out their differences and see each other the way their fans do.
