When Newbie Police Officer Freddie Jimenez was called into action, he did not hesitate for a second. Officer Jimenez of the Trenton Police Department has yet to celebrate his one-year anniversary as a cop, but he had already demonstrated that he has tremendous courage and composure under pressure. When he encountered a suicidal man literally hanging for his life from the window of one of the rooms in the Trent Center Apartments on Greenwood Avenue, Jimenez didn’t flounder and immediately took measures to save the man.

According to the police, Jimenez was at the scene because he knew that the the man’s wife had just died of natural causes. But when Jimenez first entered the room, it was evident that he had no clue that the man was already dangling from the window, ready to kill himself. Jimenez is heard asking: “Can I speak to you? Where are you?”

The moment the rookie cop realized that the voice was coming from outside the window, he immediately grabbed the man’s hand and called for backup:“I need assistance, I got a man out hanging out the window. I need another unit out here, please!” relayed Jimenez on the radio.

Turning to the suicidal man, the cop begged frantically: “Sir, please don’t, sir. Hang on! Grab on, please!”

While waiting for help to come, Jimenez kept on assuring the man that he was there to help: “Sir, please. I’m here to help you,” he said, “I got you. I don’t want you to die. I don’t want you to die.”

Miraculously, Jimenez was able to pull the man back up on his own. When the man was finally safely back inside, he could be seen trembling and shocked as the officer tried to calm him down.
