The New ‘Lion King’ Trailer Gives Us A Taste Of Queen Bey Nala

Updated

on

Predicted to be the best movie of the summer, The Lion King features some big Hollywood names. Music from Beyoncé herself and Childish Gambino, which we get a glimpse of in the new trailer Disney has released. We’ve put together a list of what we know so far.

What’s Going On Here?

Disney has been quite hush-hush about The Lion King, but here’s what we know so far:

It’s a CGI animated remake of the 1994 original film.

It features big names like Seth Rogen, Beyoncé, Donald Glover, Keegan-Michael Key, and James Earl Jones (the original voice of Mufasa.)

It’s directed by Jon Favreau who also directed The Jungle Book.

The film is set in Tanzania.

Most of the cast are of African descent.

It has the second-highest best ticket first-day sales.

Everything You See Exists Together In A Delicate Balance

The Lion King is one of the many remakes that Disney has announced in the last couple of years. The original aired in 1994 and has become one of the classic Disney films everyone talks about. Unlike the original, this version uses CGI animation to deliver a better viewing quality and some excitement. We can anticipate some very life-like roars sprinkled in here and there.

The movie features big names like Seth Rogen who voices Pumbaa, Keegan-Michael Key who voices Kamari (one of the hyenas), and James Earl Jones who voices Mufasa. James Earl Jones is the only actor that reprises his role from the original movie. Hans Zimmer, the film composer, Elton John, and Tim Rice also returned to work on the 2019 remake as songwriters.

Remember Who You Are

Let’s not forget about the stars Simba and Nala who are voiced by ever-popular Donald Glover and Beyoncé Knowles. With this information, we can safely assume that the all too important soundtrack in this movie is going to be epic. The little taste Disney gave us in their new trailer has us wanting more. As if we weren’t already excited enough about a Lion King remake, we can look forward to hearing some of the most well-known voices in Hollywood.

Director Jon Favreau took us on a memorable journey with The Jungle Book and we can’t wait to see what he has done with The Lion King. Favreau won the Hollywood Blockbuster award with The Jungle Book. “Jon Favreau has introduced the reinvention of a new style of film that demands visual effects artists to push beyond the boundaries of what can and has been done before,” said Mike Chambers, VES Board Chair.

Hakuna Matata

In the original trailer of the movie, Mount Kilimanjaro is shown which tells us that the film is set in Tanzania. Swahili is spoken in Tanzania and Hakuna Wasiwasi is the phrase they use to mean “No worries”. Disney, of course, changed this to Hakuna Matata. What a wonderful phrase.

All of the lions and hyenas are voiced by actors of African descent. There are only three actors in the movie that are of Caucasian descent (Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and John Oliver.) In the original film, both Simba and Nala were played by actors of Caucasian descent.

Long Live The King

It’s not even here yet and already it is expected to make over $150 million opening weekend! To say it is highly anticipated would be an understatement. It is right behind Avengers: Endgame which made $350 million their opening weekend.

July 19th, 2019 is a day everyone is waiting for!
