Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Debuting in 2013, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. became the first TV series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show deals with the daily missions of the popular Marvel Comics spy agency. In it, Agent Coulson, who died in The Avengers, gets brought back to life to help lead his team to victory.
Throughout the series, noticeable Marvel Comics characters make their way to shake things up and the show has made several acknowledgments to the popular Marvel Studios films. These mentions, however, are brief to fully showcase the show’s amazing cast of characters. Aside from Clark Gregg, the show features support from Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, and Iain De Caestecker. The show will say farewell this year with season seven.
Released in 2009, Moon follows astronaut Sam Bell and his mental struggles after a three-year stint on the moon. Before releasing it to the public, the film was shown to a room full of NASA scientists. Duncan Jones, who makes his directorial debut with the film, wowed everyone with the final product. In 2010, the London native won the BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer. Sam Rockwell, who portrays Bell, won for Best Actor at the Sitges Film Festival. A spiritual successor titled Mute was released exclusively on Netflix.
The Edge of Seventeen
The Edge of Seventeen showcases the tense side of dating in high school. Nadine finds herself in a sticky situation when her best friend Krista starts dating her brother Blake. Hailee Steinfeld, who plays Nadine, is the film’s standout with her remarkable performance. Steinfeld’s performance won the Best Young Actress award at the Women Film Critics Circle Awards.
Screenwriter Kelly Fremon Craig’s life changed with the release of “The Edge of Seventeen.” The California native took a shot with a meeting with producer James L. Brooks. “I had written a spec version of this film, and had been just an insane fan of Jim’s for years and years,” Craig told Creative Screenwriting. “He was the crazy longshot I took in the beginning! And one I never thought would actually work But I sent him the script and he ended up taking on the project.” “The Edge of Seventeen” was Craig’s directorial debut, and it earned her the Best First Film award at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards. A TV show spin-off has been in development with YouTube Premium since 2018.
In Locke, Tom Hardy portrays the title character, whose life changes through a slew of phone calls. The film stands out for only having Hardy on screen throughout the whole thing. Tom Holland, Olivia Colman, and Andrew Scott are among those heard on the other side of each call. The film has earned a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. For Hardy’s performance, the actor won for Best Actor at the Toronto Film Critics Association Awards and Chlotrudis Awards.
Schitt’s Creek reunites SCTV cast members Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara for a magnificent sitcom. The show revolves around the Rose family, who lost their wealth due to a crucial business decision. With little money, they have to start over in Schitt’s Creek, which they purchased before their financial collapse.
