Netflix Announces Highest Subscription Fee Yet

Published

on

Netflix is raising the price on all of its streaming packages. This move will surely come as bad news to the services’ 58 million subscribers but on the bright side, the price hike is relatively small.

A Few Bucks More

The new price change will move the basic plan from $8 to $9 per month. It’s two device plan, the most popular choice of subscribers, will go from $11 to $13 a month. The premium plan rate, now at $14, will rise to $16 a month.

While these new prices will surely add up and make a difference in each subscriber’s yearly streaming expense, it seems doubtful that many people will ditch Netflix on account of the relatively small price hike.

Big Numbers

Recent stats coming from the streaming giant show that it has compiled over 139 million subscribers. Showing strong continuous growth, Netflix has apparently racked up nearly 9 million of these subscribers in the last three months alone.

Additionally, while the company’s original strategy was to simply buy existing movies and television shows for its own streaming, the majority of what viewers are enjoying now from Netflix is its own original pieces of content.

Costs Coming Soon

The newly raised subscription prices are set to affect current Netflix users in the coming months and will be implemented immediately for new customers. On the subject, Netflix declared, “We change pricing from time to time as we continue investing in great entertainment and improving the overall Netflix experience.”

The fairly small rise in prices for Netflix users will be noticed, but will hopefully not break the budget for anyone. Hopefully, as the company continues to invest in itself, its product will continue to improve and customer satisfaction will only improve. Either way, Netflix is a streaming force to be reckoned with and only seems to be getting stronger.
