NBC Renews Brooklyn Nine-Nine For Another Season

Published

on

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been going strong for six seasons straight. Universally considered one of the best and most biting sitcoms of the past few years, it ran into a bit of problem last year. Threatened with cancellation, the Andy Samberg star vehicle needed a new home. NBC scooped it up and brought it back with panache. Now, it’s coming back again with a whole new seventh season.

Cancellation Crisis

When Fox decided not to pick up Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the fans cried out for help. They wanted their TV comedy that mixed biting social commentary with slapstick humor to continue for a few more years. Things were looking dire, but a few days later things were saved.

NBC announced that they were going to pick up the series for a sixth season. As a result of the network change, some aspect of the show was shuffled around. Gina played by Chelsea Peretti left after only a few episodes to her name in the sixth season. But that didn’t stop the comedy behemoth known as Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Season Six Doesn’t Pull Its Punches

The minor reoccurring characters of Hitchcock and Scully were promoted to series regulars due to Gina’s departure. Mild swearing was allowed for the first time leading to excellent jokes in the premiere episode. And of course, the social commentary got even more biting with the Stephanie Beatriz directed episode “He Said, She Said”.

Guest appearances from well-known celebrities like Lin-Manuel Miranda have also helped the show out. The transition to a new network actually provided Brooklyn Nine-Nine a breath of fresh air and quality.

Renewed For Another Year

NBC announced that Brooklyn Nine-Nine has become its top-rated comedy. With that, there was no doubt that the show would continue for at least another year. NBC certainly delivered on their promise.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been renewed for its seventh season, and if it’s anything like the current season, it may well be it’s best. Look forward to seeing it near the end of the year.
