Navy SEAL Stands and Kisses Wife After Waking Up from Coma

Navy SEAL Jon Grant was in a devastating car accident on March 17, 2017, which caused him to suffer from diffuse axonal injury (DAI), a severe brain disease that left him in a coma.

The accident happened a few days before Jon and his wife Laura’s 5th wedding anniversary, causing much pain and devastation. Moreover, Jon’s prognosis was bleak. According to the doctors, only 10% of DAI patients wake up from a coma and even if they did, they most likely suffer from a disability.

Fortunately, the Navy SEAL was part of the 10% as he woke up after two months of being in a coma. His overall progress, however, had been slow.

“I was told in neuro ICU if Jon made it, the recovery process would be a marathon, not a sprint,” Laura told Today.

Laura shared Jon’s recovery journey on her Instagram page, saying that “each day brings excitement with every eye flutter” and “flinch of the shoulder”.

The most exciting progress, however, happened when Jon took a few steps during a physical therapy session and gave Laura a kiss. The heartwarming moment was captured on video and uploaded on IG and has since received more than three million views.

Nobody was more thrilled about the kiss than Laura, saying: “It felt like home. It was like our first dance at our wedding. Everything about our wedding day was perfect… I’ll never forget a memory from right before I walked down the aisle. I looked out the house and saw Jon. I told my mom, ‘It feels like a first date. I’m so excited and nervous’.”

Laura believed that Jon’s ordeal was meant to serve as an inspiration to others, which is why she continues to share their journey.

“Jon only had a 10 percent chance of surviving let alone be able to do some of the things he’s already accomplished… The human brain has an amazing ability to heal itself with time, but, in Jon’s case, God’s healing hand is clearly evident,” said Laura.
