Is Natalie Portman Eyeing A ‘V For Vendetta’ Sequel?

Published

on

The 2005 film V For Vendetta became a box office hit with $132 million earned. Natalie Portman, famously portraying Evey Hammond in the film, wouldn’t turn down a chance to return to this nightmarish future world.

S For Sequel

Natalie Portman would love to reprise her role for V For Vendetta 2. In a Q&A session with Buzzfeed, the actress was asked about what movies she’d want to make into a sequel. The actress simply stated, “Maybe V for Vendetta.”

Portman got the role after meeting director James McTeigue on the set of Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. This was McTeigue’s directorial debut.

Remember, Remember The 5th Of November

V For Vendetta was based on the DC Comics series by Alan Moore. It was the number one film in the United States, Sweden, Singapore, Taiwan, Philippines, and South Korea. The film earned Portman a Best Actress award at the 2007 Saturn Awards. One of the biggest cultural icons derived from the film is the Guy Fawkes mask.

The film was actually slated to be released the night before the 400th anniversary of Guy Fawkes Night. However, its debut was delayed by four months. It gained mixed reviews, but At the Movies and Ebert and Roeper praised it for its storyline.

A Possible Small Screen Run?

Portman’s desire to work on a V For Vendetta sequel comes months after a rumored TV series was planned in the U.K. The show is reportedly being developed by Channel 4, which is behind the hit series, Misfits and Black Mirror. If a film deal doesn’t occur, Portman could possibly reprise her role in this show.

This won’t be the first Moore series to get the TV treatment. Watchmen is getting a pilot shot for HBO, and a From Hell show has been in the works since 2014.
