Horror fans couldn’t get enough of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful. The Emmy nominated show is gearing for up its upcoming spin-off Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. One former Queen is set to make her presence felt on the brand new series.

Loving Angels Instead

It was revealed that Natalie Dormer will join the City of Angels‘ cast. She will portray the demon Magda, who can transform into anyone. It’s safe to say this shapeshifter will keep everyone on their toes.

HBO

Dormer is best known for portraying Margaery Tyrell on the HBO series Game of Thrones. Aside from Thrones, Dormer has played Cressida in The Hunger Games and Anne Boleyn in The Tudors.

Everyone Is Someone In L.A.

City of Angels will take place four decades after the original Penny Dreadful series. This time around, it revolves around Mexican-American folklore in Los Angeles.

Showtime

“We will now be grappling with specific historical and real-world political, religious, social and racial issues. In 1938, Los Angeles was facing some hard questions about its future and its soul. Our characters must do the same. There are no easy answers,” showrunner John Logan said in a press release.

Living For The City

City of Angels was revealed last November following meetings between Logan and Showtime executives. “We were so thrilled when John Logan came to us with this wildly original take on the Penny Dreadful mythology that explores both the human spirit and the spirit world here in California. Penny Dreadful City of Angels promises to be an extraordinary saga of familial love set against the terrifying monsters that are around us and within us,” Showtime president of programming Gary Levine said.

Fremantle

Joining Dormer on the cast are Lady Bird’s Daniel ZovattoNew Amsterdam‘s Johnathan Nieves, and The Purge‘s Jessica Garza. Nieves previously appeared on an episode of Penny Dreadful. Shooting will begin later this year.
