Mindy Kaling Protests Against the Unjust Murder of Srivinas Kuchibhotla

Actress Mindy Kaling has taken to Twitter to protest against the unjust slaughter of Srivinas Kuchibhotla, 32, who was murdered at a bar on February 22, in Olathe city, Kansas, in what appears to be a hate crime. Kaling stated on Twitter, “The murder of Srivinas Kuchibhotla is incomprehensible. The anguish of his family. This must continue to shock us, it cannot be normalized.” It was reported that Kuchibhotla’s killer was found at an Applebee’s over 80 miles away from the crime enjoying an alcoholic beverage when an employee overheard the shooter say he was hiding after committing murder.

Kaling, known for her comedic acting and writing chops in The Office and The Mindy Project, is urging her followers not forget about this crime and to avoid normalizing this reported hate crime as others have before.

Kaling went on to say, “He was murdered in a hate crime, by a man shouting ‘get out of my country’. Srinivas Kuchibhotla was 32 years old. Why is this ignored?”

Kaling’s Twitter comments have sparked opinions of many Twitter users as celebrity comments usually do. Some of her followers jumped in the conversation to point out that Kuchibhotla’s murder has made national news. However, it doesn’t seem Mindy is satisfied with this sad story making national headlines. It seems Mindy wants a call to action.

This is not first time a celebrity has taken to social media to point out injustice. And hopefully it will not be the last. In the last few years we’ve seen Macklemore take to Instagram to talk about the Alton Sterling shooting.

Olivia Wilde and Lena Dunham also spoke out on the #blacklivesmatter movement while Beyonce published a letter to her website addressing the killings of Sterling and Castile. John Legend has also spoke out about the murder of Philando Castile.

It’s unclear if Mindy will get involved with any further comments or movements that might be happening in the murder of Kuchibhotla as her Twitter page has been silent for the last 24 hours.
