It’s hard to find someone that isn’t a fan of Netflix’s original programming. Their TV shows and movies have earned universal praise and cemented themselves in pop culture history. One major purchase will increase the amount of new content by a huge number.

A Brand New Home

The popular streaming company just purchased the ABQ Studios in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since opening in 2006, the studio has been the home of popular T.V. shows Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and In Plain Sight.

When it comes to films, The Book of Eli and The Avengers have been shot in the studio. Netflix is no stranger to New Mexico with The Ridiculous SixGodless, and Longmire being shot in the state. The deal was made for an undisclosed amount of money.

Land Of Enchantment

New Mexico governor Susana Martinez is extremely excited for this new addition to the state. “New Mexico is leading the nation in economic growth and lowering unemployment and we’ve brought the world’s leading internet entertainment service, Netflix, to our state,” she said at the press conference.

Albuquerque mayor Tim Keller is on board with the positive vibes it’ll give his city. “Now viewers all over the world will be able to experience the most beautiful and livable city in the Southwest while watching their favorite Netflix content,” he said. The deal is set to create 1,000 production jobs in the state with $1 billion worth in production.

The service is currently filming two projects in the area. Supernatural series Chambers, which stars Uma Thurman, and drama series Messiah will both be released in 2019. One series slated to begin shooting in ABQ Studios is Daybreak. The comedy/drama is based on the Brian Ralph graphic novel of the same name.

With several shows currently waiting for a production date, many of them will shoot in their newly acquired studio.
