Back in May, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry introduced their son Archie into the world. Many parents give their children a nickname as a way to showcase a trait they possess. The nickname for Archie has finally been revealed, and it’s simply adorable!
A Very Common Nickname
Markle and Harry brought Archie with them on a trip to South Africa to visit Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Upon meeting Tutu, Markle tries to get Archie to greet him. “Say hello, hello Oh, Bubba,” she says in a video. The nickname Bubba is a common nickname for boys – in Australia and New Zealand, the name is synonymous with baby. Professional athletes such as Bubba Smith, Bubba Church, and Bubba Watson have brought the nickname a higher level of fame. June 2 has been unofficially known as National Bubba Day.
Plans for Archie to travel with Markle and Harry were in the works for a while. “They hope to include Archie at some point in the program. It’s just difficult to schedule because he’s five months old,” an unnamed source told Town and Country Mag. Upon meeting Archie for the first time, Tutu fell in love with the newborn.
A Dream Come True
For years, Markle wanted to embark on a new journey as a mom. In a 2016 interview with Lifestyle Magazine, she discussed bringing some kids into the world. “I dreamt [of becoming] a successful working actress, which I can now very thankfully tick off the list. And I also dream to have a family,” Meghan said in the interview. “It’s all about balance, and I have so much happiness in my career and am fortunate to travel the world and see so many amazing things—it will also be nice to be anchored to something grounded and in the same place. Raising a family will be a wonderful part of that.”
With the birth of Archie, Harry talked about his new life as a parent. “I view it differently now, without question, but I’ve always wanted to try and ensure that, even before having a child and hoping to have children,” he told Jane Goodall in an interview with British Vogue. When Goodall joked about having a ton of children, Harry replied, “Two, maximum!” Harry and Markle wouldn’t be the only royal couple with two children. Prince Andrew, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward all have two kids.
Finding Their Voice
During their trip to Africa, Archie showcased a side never seen before by his parents. “He clearly loves Africa as well because he’s been happy looking out the window. [Archie] found his voice here. He was bouncing up and down and making more noise than he’s ever made before,” Harry said in the documentary “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey”. The 48-minute documentary follows the royal couple on their first-ever royal tour.
Traveling overseas at such a young age can be a bit scary for parents. Fortunately, Harry and Markle knew this would be a life-changing experience. “I think Archie will look back on that in so many years and that right from the beginning of his life, he was fortunate enough to have this moment with one of the best and most impactful leaders of our time. So, it’s really special,” Markle said in the documentary.
As expected, this won’t be the first time Archie will be traveling with his parents. In his adulthood, he’ll be gathering more information about the world around him. As an official citizen of the United Kingdom and the United States, he’ll have a wider range of opportunities. With his forthcoming wisdom, Archie will make an impact on the world.
