Meghan Markle Finally Reveals Charity Project She’s Kept Under Wraps For Months

Meghan Markle has been quietly working for months on a special project that is intended to help others in a powerful way. Now, she’s finally revealed exactly what it is!

Cooking Up Ideas

Since January 2018, the Duchess of Sussex has been meeting with some of the women affected by the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire in London. Their group regularly meets at the Hubb Community Kitchen where they cook together and chat about their lives. They all enjoyed their time together so much that they decided to create their own cookbook!

Markle and the other women have launched their own book of delicious recipes entitled Together: Our Community Kitchen. The book is filled with 50 personal recipes featuring dishes from all over the world, including the Middle East, North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean. It’s inclusive of the women’s own heritage and cultures.

A Powerful Connection

Since meeting these women, the Duchess of Sussex felt immediately connected to them. “It is a place for women to laugh, grieve, cry and cook together,” she said in a statement. “Melding cultural identities under a shared roof, it creates a space to feel a sense of normalcy – in its simplest form, the universal need to connect, nurture, and commune through food, through crisis or joy – something we can all relate to.”

Markle came up with the idea of the cookbook after discovering the Hubb Community Kitchen was only open two days a week because of lack of money. She worked with these women for nine months to create ideas for the cookbook. It gave her time to not only cook these special recipes but create bonds with each of the people worked on it. It showed her once again that her new home country of London has great diversity, kindness, and love.

Launch Day!

Markle and the Hubb Community Kitchen recently celebrated the release of the cookbook with a special launch party at Kensington Palace. Markle’s husband, Prince Harry, along with her mom, Doria Ragland, were also in attendance. During the event, the women created a special lunch using recipes from the book, including coconut chicken curry, aubergine masala, and chapatis.

Sales from the cookbook will raise money not only for the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire but also the Hubb Community Kitchen. Ragland herself was very impressed with the work of her daughter and the other women. “The power of women,” she mentioned at the event. “We make things happen. We’re curious, we say yes, we show up. I’m inspired.”
