It May Not Be Over For Andrew Lincoln And The Walking Dead

Published

on

While Andrew Lincoln’s character Rick Grimes is still present in The Walking Dead, he announced earlier this year that the upcoming season nine will be his last. Now, rumors are swirling that Lincoln will be back. But how, and what does this mean for the future of the show?

Why He’s Leaving

Lincoln announced at this year’s Comic Con that he would be ending his long and eventful run as Rick Grimes. As heartbreaking as the news was, the reason was a common and very simple one.

As his family is still based in his native England, he stated in his goodbye, “I have two young children, and I live in a different country…It was that simple. It was time for me to come home.”

How Lincoln Will Still Be A Part Of TWD Family

Why we still don’t know exactly how Lincoln will leave the show (many fans are anxiously anticipating some kind of brutal end for Rick), we do know how he’s going to come back. Don’t get too excited, he’s not returning in character.

Instead, he’ll be coming back to shadow a director and learn the tricks of the trade behind the camera. He hopes to direct an episode of season ten, and admits that “can’t be that far away because I can’t bear it. That’s how much I am invested in the show and continuation of the story.”

Who’s Going To Take Over

Again, we don’t know how Rick will exit the post-apocalyptic clan, but we can muse over who will take over as the new group leader. The season nine premiere provided some insight into the lives of the major players and what they might have to take on without Rick.

Fan favorites for new head honcho include Daryl Dixon, of course, but there are also viewers rooting for the dark side and Negan’s eventual return. Watch the latest episode and see what you think!
