Matthew And Camila McConaughey Deliver 110,000 Masks In Texas

The current coronavirus situation has left many around the world feeling scared. Many service workers have been struggling to find masks to protect themselves from danger. Fortunately, actor Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila have stepped up with masks in Texas.
Making Texas Proud
When it comes to the coronavirus, Texas has seen an increase in hotspots in the state. As a Texan, McConaughey felt it was important to help out his home state. Along with Camila, the couple delivered 110,000 masks to various Texas hospitals. These masks were provided with the help of the car company Lincoln (who has worked with McConaughey over the years). In a Lincoln truck, the couple drove to hospitals to deliver these masks in person. Actually, hand-delivering the masks was Camila’s idea — they wanted to make sure everything was okay. As expected, seeing an Oscar-winner arrive in person was a shock to everyone.
Some Much Needed Protection
During this pandemic, the McConaugheys have been doing their part to keep people safe. In April, the pair donated 80,000 masks to first responders in New Orleans and Austin. “It was important for us to make sure that here in Austin, not just the hospitals got them, but also the police department and the fire department as well. In this moment, we’ve got to find ways to help both sides because they’re all on the front line right now and we can’t afford to lose any of them,” Camila told People. The McConaugheys have been working with disaster relief initiative BStrong, which is operated by Bethenny Frankel. Much like their latest run, the couple hand-delivered these masks to stations.
While McConaughey is a proud Texan, his love for New Orleans is well-known. With his father living near the city, the actor always visited the place as a kid. The actor has filmed True Detective, The Free State of Jones, and Dallas Buyers Club in New Orleans. When he’s shooting in the city, McConaughey brings his family with him. For him, it’s the best way to combine work and family time.
Let’s Play A Game
The couple hasn’t been just only delivering masks. They’ve been providing joy to those stuck in isolation. Many senior citizens at The Enclave at Round Rock Senior Living have been feeling down. Through the power of Zoom, the couple joined some senior citizens in a game of Bingo. McConaughey helped call out numbers throughout the event. Senior citizens enjoyed hearing the famed star talk about his roots and how much he loves Texas.

We Will Overcome
When it comes to the situation, McConaughey believes there’s a green light ahead. “I believe that green light is gonna be built on the values that we can enact right now. Values of fairness, kindness, accountability, resilience, respect, courage,” he said on Twitter. “If we practice those things right now, when we get out of this, this virus, this time might be the one time it brings us all together and unifies us, like we have not been in a long time.” McConaughey’s message resonated with many of his 2.6 million Twitter followers.
Matthew McConaughey isn’t the only celebrity doing what they can to make a change. In her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia, singer Shakira donated N95 masks and ventilators to health workers. NBA star Bismack Biyombo helped his home country of the Democratic Republic of Congo with $1 million worth of medical supplies. For them, it’s not about flaunting their wealth. It’s about using their fame to do something positive in a dark time.
As long as the pandemic persists, the McConaugheys will continue lending a hand. While the couple is still here, they’ll strive to lead a good example for their fans and children.
