Will We Get A ‘Man Of Steel 2’ Announcement At San Diego Comic Con?

Published

We’re several movies deep in the DC Extended Universe, but one anticipated sequel has been left in the dark. Fortunately, a key announcement might be coming soon.

Waiting For Superman

2013 saw the beginning of the DC Extended Universe with Man of Steel. While the movie had a mixed reaction from critics and fans, it managed to walk away with $668 million at the box office.

With San Diego Comic Con coming up, there are several rumors that a Man of Steel sequel will be announced at the sold-out event.

Years In The Making

Man of Steel 2 was originally confirmed months after the 2016 release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. When it comes to a possible director, Warner Bros. had two in mind. Their first choice is Matthew Vaughn, who is best known for directing the Kick-Ass and Kingsman franchises. The London native also had a hand in superhero movies such as X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Warner Bros.’ next choice for Man of Steel 2 is Christopher McQuarrie, who won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay with The Usual Suspects. Much like Vaughn, he also has a history with superhero films, with uncredited work on X-Men and The Wolverine. His next film, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, features Man of Steel star Henry Cavill. Neither director has been confirmed to work on the project.

Plenty In Store For The Universe

This year, the DC Extended Universe will head down to Atlantis with the release of Aquaman. Starring Jason Momoa, the film will also include performances from Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard, and Willem Dafoe.

In 2019, Shazam! and Wonder Woman 2 will arrive on the big screen. In 2020, Cyborg and Green Lantern Corps will take over the box office. There are also several other movies in the works, including a New Gods film and two Joker films.
