Mad Men

AMC’s Mad Men is one of the 21st century’s finest shows. For seven seasons, the show impressed critics with its storytelling and historical accuracy. Recently, co-stars Jon Hamm and Kiernan Shipka reunited, and it got fans of the show excited.

Father Knows Best

Shipka celebrated her 20th birthday, and all of her close friends were invited. Hamm, who played her father on Mad Men, came by for the occasion. On Instagram, she shared a photo of her and Hamm with the caption “Dad showed up!!!” As expected, there were numerous Mad Men references in the comments. “My heart hurts. Irl Sally probably looks after Don now,” Instagram user hcroxford said, With the holidays coming up, Instagram user spookymike__91 said, “Sally better eat her Thanksgiving dinner now.”

January Jones, who played Shipka’s mother on Mad Men, had plans to arrive. Unfortunately, she had to sit this one out. “I’m so proud of you @kiernanshipka I feel somewhat responsible for you little one. You have become such a success in life and in this silly world we call work. I couldn’t have asked for a better on screen daughter/partner in crime. Known you since you were 6! Happy 20th!!! Love Mom,” Jones said in an Instagram post.

The Years Gone By

At the age of six, Shipka got the role of Sally Draper on Mad Men. Growing up alongside the show was a colossal life experience. “It’s one of those things where you can’t imagine what your life would possibly be without it. Physically, I would not be here; I don’t think I would be anywhere near here,” Shipka told Stylist Magazine. “I truly have no idea what kind of person I would be without it because it was so formative. It’s where I learned that I really, really loved acting, and watching everyone work was amazing.”

While Mad Men is done, Hamm is down for a spinoff series with Shipka in the lead role. “We would want to watch Sally grow up. Move through the ’70s and turn into a rock star and turn into Joan Jett or something. Ride a motorcycle and kill a guy. Make a bunch of money and then become Oliver Stone in the 80s. Date Kurt Cobain in the 90s,” Hamm told People back in 2015. “She’s just a touchstone for every generation. Yeah, I’d watch that show. Sally Through the Decades.”

Some New Ventures

Over the years, both Shipka and Hamm have moved onto exciting new gigs. Hamm has spent more time on the big screen with roles in Baby Driver and The Report. Next year, he’ll be part of Top Gun: Maverick, which comes out on June 26, 2020. On the TV side, Hamm has appeared in LegionThe Amazing Gayl Pile, and Good Omens.

While Hamm’s proposed Mad Men spinoff is up in the air, Shipka recently got top billing thanks to Netflix. She can be seen as Sabrina Spellman in the popular series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. While she didn’t watch the ’90s series, she was attracted to its source material. “When I got the audition for this, I read The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the comic series that this is most similar to, and became really immersed in that world. It was super dark! I was like, “Whoa, did not expect this,” but they’re beautifully drawn and I was completely drawn in,” she told Elle. Recently. Shipka reunited with Jones for Rodarte’s spring/summer 2020 lookbook.

While they’re on different paths, Shipka and Hamm will forever be tied to Mad Men. Future generations of people will watch the two deliver amazing performances. From Barack Obama to Emilia Clarke, everyone will always see them as Don and Sally.
