No Danger Here: Netflix Renews ‘Lost In Space’ For Its Second Season

Published

When Netflix announced a Lost In Space series back in 2014, sci-fi fans were completely ecstatic. Released in April, the series became a major hit for the streaming service. Fans will be happy to know the Robinson family will be back for round two.

A Quick Renewal

Weeks after debuting on Netflix, the show has already been renewed for a second season. The show’s first season gained positive reviews from publications such as IGN, Games Radar, and Empire Online.

When it comes to recently-renewed Netflix shows, Lost In Space joins Queer Eye, On My Block, and Alexa & Katie.

Plans Laid Out

Before the show was renewed, co-creators Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless already had plans for a second season. “We are working on scripts and hoping that, if we get a green light, we’re ready to go,” Sazama told IndieWire.

Executive producer Zack Estrin also has plans for the Robinson family. “If Netflix decides to do a season two, we want to focus on our young cast coming of age. Our kid actors are going to age, so we want to embrace that with our storytelling,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Danger, Will Robinson

One of the biggest changes to come from the new Lost In Space series involves the creative changes to the Robot character. The character gained some new fans online, but for the strangest reasons. Many people confessed they were physically attracted to the character. Netflix noticed this strange trend and decided to respond in a video.

“When Lost in Space premiered, we were prepared for a big reaction. What we weren’t prepared for was this,” they stated before showing tweets from thrilled fans. “I’m gonna be honest with y’all, I’m genuinely debating watching the Lost In Space reboot for the hot robot,” Twitter user @hermanngaylieb stated. Netflix shared the clip with the caption, “Y’all need Jesus.”
