New Bar “Coup” Has an Unusual Trump-Inspired Theme

Published

on

People all over the United States have found ways to manage their response to the election of Donald Trump to the White House. People who voted for him are elated, of course. For people who did not support Trump, this has been a hard time. Some people have sought out psychological help. Others have taken their feelings and channeled them into new business ventures. That is what Ravi DeRossi did. He created “Coup.”

DeRossi said, “For the few weeks after the election, I couldn’t get out of bed. It was all I could do to read the news.” Finally he went back to doing what he does best, he opened a new bar. He has helped open several trendy spots around Manhattan. They include Amor y Amargo, Cienfuegos, Death & Co., Mayahuel and Mother of Pearl.

Coup D’Etat Is the Theme of the New Bar

The most recent establishment DeRossi is opening is a bar with an anti-Trump theme. It is in the East Village in New York City. The name “Coup” comes from the phrase “coup d’etat.” DeRossi says he plans to donate the money made at the bar to causes and organizations that face trouble under the Trump Administration.

DeRossi said, “One-hundred percent of the profits are going to organizations that are either being defunded by the current administration or need money to fight the current administration, like Planned Parenthood and the ACLU.”

The decorations in the bar come from recent anti-Trump rallies, marches and protests. DeRossi says he expects the bar to be around as long as we have Trump in the White House. Some look at Coup and have said that it is more of a “pop-up” but DeRossi disagrees with that assessment. He says, “It’s going to be open for at least as long as the current administration.”
