A $5 million bidding war last year over Grann’s just-published book also attracted the attention of George Clooney and Brad Pitt. Imperative Entertainment eventually secured the rights and the powerhouse trio has since expressed interest, according to Deadline.

The non-fiction work documents the multiple murders of members of the Osage Indian tribe in Oklahoma after they discover oil on their lands, which makes the nation the richest per capita in the world. It also chronicles the rise of J. Edgar Hoover, who made a name for himself by leading the investigation into the murders in the 1920s.

If the project comes through, it could possibly be the second time DiCaprio plays J. Edgar Hoover. The actor previously portrayed the FBI director in Clint Eastwood’s 2011 biopic J. Edgar.

It would also mark the first time Scorsese joined DiCaprio and De Niro together for one of his films. They previously starred together in This Boy’s Life back in 1993, when DiCaprio was just a kid.

IMDb

DiCaprio and Scorsese have teamed up on multiple occasions with Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street.
