The Latest Star Wars Movie Announcement Will Have Fans Scratching Their Heads

Published

on

Former British foreign secretary Boris Johnson has shook up the movie world with an announcement of sorts. While speaking at the recent DUP conference he dropped a rather surprising gem that would easily leave Star Wars fans a bit confused.

The Statement

Johnson asked and answered a big question when he said, “What was the biggest grossing movie last year? Star Wars, and where does George Lucas propose to make a follow up about Obi-Wan Kenobi? Northern Ireland.”

The Independent

This statement has the potential of being huge, as it could be Lucas’ return to the monster franchise he created.

Is It True?

There are several thoughts about Johnson’s statement. Some say it could be proof that Disney is bringing Lucas back to the forefront of the wildly successful movie juggernaut. Others speculate that Johson did not realize that the Obi-Wan Kenobi feature film has been been shelved, as was reported after the fiscal fiasco that was the franchise’s last film, Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Another take is that Johson was not even aware that Lucas no longer has his hands in the Star Wars megaseries. Regardless, there is now some hope to hold onto that an Obi-Wan Kenobi film is in the works.

One Thing Checks Out

Earlier this year there was talk that one of the next steps in the Star Wars world was the rumored Obi-Wan movie. The bit of information connected to it that resonates with Boris Johnson’s statement was that the film was to be shot in Belfast, and that the location was being looked at by George Lucas. This does not give a great deal of support to Johnson’s claims, but it is something.

Despite Boris Johnson’s somewhat big announcement, Star Wars fans are still primarily in the dark about the state of an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie. Perhaps the information supplied by Johnson will be supported by a more well-connected source. Fingers crossed!
