Kim Kardashian Sparks Internet Backlash (Again) With Vogue Cover

Kim Kardashian is no stranger to controversy, especially when it comes to magazine shoots. The reality TV star’s infamous nude Paper Magazine cover in 2014 “broke the internet.” This time it’s her appearance on her seventh Vogue cover that’s causing a storm.

Controversy Over Kim

Kanye West’s wife features on the cover of Vogue India‘s latest issue, and in the interview gushes over her love of Indian fashion and culture. Admitting she was excited about her appearance, she wrote: “The saris, the jewelry, the clothes — everything was so beautiful!”

“I told my show that we have to figure out how to get to India,” she added. But not everyone was happy. Fans have been venting their anger online about the choice of Kim as a cover star and feel a South-Asian model should have been chosen.

Non-Asian Backlash

It’s not the first time the magazine has come under fire for their choice of Western cover stars. Last year they were attacked for featuring supermodel Kendall Jenner, Kim’s half-sister. At the time they released a statement, stating: “In the last 10 years, Vogue India has had only 12 international covers, including Kendall Jenner in 2017.

“Therefore, statistically, 90 percent of our covers are Indian! And we are proud of that. India has given the world so many beautiful faces to admire. After all, we are Vogue, an international brand, and we want to give the love back by featuring some of the best international celebrities on our covers. Occasionally!”

Kim Offends India On KUWTK

It’s not the first time Kim has offended Asian culture. In 2012, she was forced to apologize after labeling Indian food “disgusting” during an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

After receiving thousands of messages on social media, the star insisted she hadn’t meant to offend anyone and released a statement: “In NO way was it intended as an insult to the Indian people or their culture.” Claiming it was just her “personal taste” she claimed she didn’t like some Armenian food, which is her cultural background, before adding: “My comment wasn’t intended to offend anybody. We all have our own opinions and tastes and I was simply expressing mine.”
