Kevin Smith Tells Twitter Jay And Silent Bob Are Back

Kevin Smith, better known by his character Silent Bob, has made an exciting announcement for comedy fans everywhere. After a nearly eight-year hiatus to produce in the horror genre, Smith and long-time friend Jason Mewes are coming back for a Jay and Silent Bob “reboot.” By the first of the year Smith, Mewes, and Mewes’ wife were back at work and nearly ready to start filming.

Clerks Stars Promise Reboot Of Everyone’s Favorite Comedy Duo

It’s been 25 years since Kevin Smith wrote, directed, produced, and performed in his breakthrough film Clerks. The comedy featured Smith and Jason Mewes as stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob, beginning their long-term partnership in subsequent films such as Mallrats and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Mewes has since acted in smaller indie roles in film and television, while Smith started directing in the horror genre. He made the 2011 Red State, along with comedy horror films Tusk and Yoga Hosers. However, the two have joined forces once again to make another great comedy feature.

Kevin Smith Takes To Twitter To Spread The News

On the first of January, Kevin Smith posted on Twitter a photo of him and Mewes’ wife Jordan Monsanto. Smith seemed especially excited, saying he wanted to capture the very moment they started writing.

Above Kevin and Jordan are seen hard at work on the new movie. Smith captioned the photo, “Spent the first day of 2019 having a #JayAndSilentBobReboot pre-pre-production meeting at our holiday-roomy @WeWork office! @JayMewes took this pic of me and @JordanMonsanto to both mark the moment and to document that we were the only dopes in Hollywood working on the holiday.”

New Movie Is More “Mature” And Coming Sooner Than You Think

Jason Mewes, or as you know him “Jay,” recently did an interview with LaughSpin and said the writing for Jay is more “mature” than in previous films. He told the website, “There’s still the goofy, slapsticky Jay, but just a little more mature. The both of them are.”

Mewes also teased that production may start as early as January, meaning we could see the rebot in late 2019. Mewes told LaughSpin, “Hopefully, all is going as planned. We have the money. We have [the] location. We have the offers out to people… We’re in motion to start pre-production [in] January… So as long as everything stays on track, yes, Jay and Silent Bob reboot will be made.”
