How Katie Holmes Reinvented Herself After Ending Things With Tom Cruise

Published

When Katie Holmes married Tom Cruise in 2006, it was the start of a legendary romance. Cruise swept Holmes off her feet, according to the Dawson’s Creek actress. The two fell madly in love, but the romance ended in divorce in 2012. Since then, Holmes has reinvented her life— for the better.

The Era Of TomKat

Holmes and Cruise married in an intimate Italian ceremony (in a castle!) in November 2006 that reportedly cost $3 million. From the very beginning, the pair had only eyes for each other, effectively initiating the era of TomKat. The couple’s daughter, Suri, was born on April 18, 2006.

But unfortunately, Holmes filed for divorce on July 9, 2012. To this day, the actress hasn’t issued a statement to the public about what exactly led to the divorce. Following the divorce, Holmes received custody of Suri, and the actress began to reinvent her life.

Laying Low

Shortly after the divorce, Holmes rented a New York apartment to raise Suri on her own, and she began to revamp the new Katie Holmes. Her friends and family assisted in her transition. At first, she laid low to stay out of the public’s eye.

But it wasn’t long before Holmes emerged out of her privacy, appearing in Broadway productions, films, and attending functions.

Reinventing Herself

Holmes ultimately decided she was done living behind someone’s shadow. She has appeared in movies, including The Giver, Woman in Gold, and others.

“I don’t have any fear now, I don’t have a lot of rules for myself, and I don’t take myself that seriously. I feel ready for new challenges,” Holmes said.

Those challenges include being a single mother, focusing on her career, and spending time with her current boyfriend, fellow actor Jamie Foxx. It doesn’t look like Holmes is slowing down anytime soon, which is exactly what she prefers.

We like this version of Katie Holmes.
