This Joker And Harley Quinn Film Just Got Completely Strange

Published

on

Before being introduced in Suicide Squad, a Joker and Harley Quinn movie was being tossed around. With screenwriters Glenn Ficarra and John Requa on board, the dream started becoming a reality. When talking about their script, the two gave fans a wild insight on the entire flick.

An Unholy Union

While talking to Metro US, Ficarra and Requa stated that their script was influenced by two projects. “It was sort of like, we wrote ‘Bad Santa’ a couple of years ago, and it was that sensibility mixed with our ‘This Is Us’ sensibility. We kind of meshed them together” stated Ficarra.

Michael Bulbenko

Aside from Bad Santa, Ficarra and Requa co-wrote the sitcoms Cats & Dogs and the 2005 Bad News Bears reboot. Both writers/directors worked with Suicide Squad co-stars Will Smith and Margot Robbie on the 2015 film Focus. They teamed up with Robbie again in 2016’s Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Aside from being executive producers on This Is Us, the two have directed a handful of episodes together.

The Doctor Is In

The two already have their first celebrity cameo appearance in mind for the film. “The whole thing starts with Harley kidnapping Dr.Phil. Played by Dr. Phil hopefully. Because her and the Joker are having problems with their relationship,” Ficarra said.

American City Business Journals

Dr. Phil is no stranger to movies with appearances in Scary Movie 4 and Madea Goes to Jail.

The Studio Decides

While talks of the movie have been going for a while, there’s a good chance it won’t get picked up. “We handed the script in and everybody loved it, but I don’t know when they are going to do it,” Ficarra said.

Warner Bros.

With a plethora of DC films in development, it could possibly sit on the shelf for a while. Fans that want their Harley and Joker fix will have to wait until Gotham City Sirens and the Suicide Squad 2 sequel.
