John Krasinski To Direct 2020 Sequel For ‘A Quiet Place’

When it comes to standout films in 2018, A Quiet Place is on everyone’s list. A film based on the idea of living in silence is bizarre for our loud society. When it comes to the upcoming sequel, one major name is slated to return.

Oh So Quiet

John Krasinski is set to direct the forthcoming movie. No one really expected the former Office star to step down from this position. While he’s directed films in the past, A Quiet Place put him on the map.

Paramount Pictures

“Andrew Form and Brad Fuller at Platinum Dunes—who are also producers on Jack Ryan—called and said, “Would you ever act in a genre movie?” I said, “Oh man, I don’t do horror movies, so I’m probably not your guy. But if it’s a cool idea…” They said, “Well, it’s about a family that can’t make any noise, and you have to figure out why.” That’s the best one-liner you can get, really. I was so hooked,” he told Deadline.

Working On The Follow Up

Weeks after its release, a sequel for A Quiet Place was in development. Over the summer, Krasinski spends his time working on its script. As expected, his wife Emily Blunt chimed in with her opinion on its progress.

Paramount Pictures

“I pitched her my idea and she was like, ‘So you’re definitely doing that.’ She said, ‘But it’s not a sequel. It’s the second book in a series,’ she said, ‘It sounds [like] semantics but it’s true, it really is—you’re not doing anything that’s like, alright I’m gonna take all the things you love and just kinda repeat them but in a different way.’ It’s not A Quieter Place, it’s sort of an exploration of getting to live in the circumstances, and that’s really fun,” Krasinski told Collider.

2020 Feels So Far Away

So far, Blunt is the only one signed on the star in the sequel. Blunt earned a SAG Award for her performance earlier this year. Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds are in talks to reprise their roles.

Paramount Pictures

A Quiet Place 2 is slated to be released on May 15, 2020.
