John Krasinski In Rumored Discussions For “Fantastic Four” Movie

Updated

on

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) can’t wait for the arrival of the Fantastic Four. One person keeping an eye on things is John Krasinski who has been rumored to take over the part of Reed Richards.

Talking Things Out

The talk about Krazinski’s potential new part began with an artist’s depiction of the Fantastic Four in 2018. It included Krasinski’s wife Emily Blunt as Sue Storm, Zac Efron as The Human Torch, John Cena as The Thin, and Krasinski as Reed Richards. These photos quickly went viral and fans immediately petitioned for Krasinski to take over the role.

For Krasinski, the idea that he’d actually take over the role is an exciting development. As recently as March, he told a reporter in an interview ComicBook.com that. “I would love to do it.. the fact that people would even consider me for that level of part would be amazing…I genuinely have had no conversations or don’t know anything that’s happening with that. I’m awaiting Kevin’s (Marvel Studio Head’s Kevin Feige) announcements of what the hell’s happening with that as much as you are.”

That has changed more recently and Krasinski has shared with fans that he’s excited about the possibility. If he gets the part, he’ll be the second cast member of The Office in the MCU. James Spader, who played Robert California, portrayed Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The Fantastic Four Has Been Onscreen Before

Trying to have a proper adaptation of Fantastic Four has seen its challenges over the years. Fox’s Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer both did well at the box office, though many comic book fans felt the movies didn’t accurately portray the beloved characters.

With Marvel acquiring the property in 2019, fans became excited that the characters’ story would get the treatment it deserved. The Fantastic Four film is slated to be a part of phase five, which takes place from 2022 through 2024. However, things might become changed or delayed due to filming delays from the coronavirus pandemic. Regardless, knowing Marvel Studios, fans can expect to see some Fantastic Four teases in films leading up to its release.

A Lot On Krasinski’s Plate

If Krasinski doesn’t get the part, he’s been open to directing a Marvel film. While talking to Esquire, he discussed what movies he’d love to tackle as a director. “If a Marvel movie came along, maybe, or I’m just looking for great stories and great characters really,” he said in the interview.

As a director, Krasinski turned heads with 2018’s A Quiet Place, which earned the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie. Once A Quiet Place Part II coming out later this year, Krasinski’s directing calendar is empty, though he could find something else to fill it.

As a producer, Krasinski is working on a brand new film called Not Fade Away. Starring Blunt, the drama follows a woman living with a life-altering genetic mutation. In addition to producing on the big screen, since the coronavirus pandemic, Krasinski has turned his attention to the internet with Some Good News. Premiering in March, the web series became an instant hit with millions of views. During the series, he held a virtual prom and reunited members of The Office for a superfan’s wedding. Krasinski will be busy running things behind the scenes a bit more after selling the show to ViacomCBS.

Despite his busy schedule, Krasinski would almost certainly be excited to accept a role in MCU’s Fantastic Four. At the same time, for longtime Fantastic Four fans, Krasinski getting the role would be an amazing development and the next big step for the film. Our fingers are crossed that this rumor becomes a reality!
