Could Jeremy Renner Be In The New Black Widow Movie?

Black Widow

In 2012 Marvel Studios released the first movie in its acclaimed Avengers franchise, for the first time uniting all the heroes seen thus far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).  Though most of the heroes in the original Avengers team were familiar faces who had already starred in their own movies, there were two avengers who were yet to have a movie of their own.  Fans of the Marvel movies would know that this is, of course, referring to Black Widow AKA Natasha Romanoff and Hawkeye AKA Clint Barton.  While the Russian assassin turned S.H.I.E.LD agent Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson had previously appeared as a supporting roll in Iron Man 3, this was the first MCU appearence for the skilled archer Hawkeye, portrayed by Jeremy Renner.  The movie portrayed a close friendship between the two of them.  It has been seven years since the release of the Avengers and now Black Widow is finally set to receive her own movie.  This movie fittingly called Black Widow, set to release in 2020 has many fans hyped and is speculated to be a prequel.  Given, the close relationship Natasha Romanoff had in the previous films, there is a question on the minds of MCU fans.

Will Hawkeye be in Black Widow?

Nothing is confirmed yet.  That being said there are many rumors from different sources circulating that claim Jeremy Renner will in fact be making an appearance as Clint Barton in the new movie.  Recently Scarlett Johansson was asked about Hawkeye’s involvement at San Diego Comic-Con.  She responded, “My lips are sealed.  You gotta wait and see.”  This obviously does not really give speculators much to work with but it at the very least was not a flat out denial.  Her response could be taken to mean there is at least a good possibility of the movie having everyone’s favorite archer.

The Importance of Budapest

Putting aside rumors of people who have reportedly had the question confirmed by some source or another, to many it would for sure seem logical for Hawkeye to be present for Black Widow‘s first time as a lead role.  It has been reported that the movie will be filmed in Hungary which has the city of Budapest as its capital.  This may seem like a trivial fact to some but to a well-versed fan, this is very exciting news.  See, in the first Avengers movie, there was an interaction between the pair where Natasha referred to their fight against an alien horde as being “like Budapest all over again”.  This heavily implies that the two of them were involved in some kind of incident in Hungary’s capital city.  Ever since that moment, fans have been dying to know what could have possibly gone down in Budapest.  Unfortunately though, since then there has been no further mention of the city or the incident that occurred there, leaving fans to merely speculate.  Could it be that the Budapest incident will be part of Black Widow’s new movie?  It’s certainly what quite a lot of fans would like to get out of the Black Widow movie and if this information about filming location is correct, it could very well be possible.  Given that Budapest was an incident shared by Clint and Natasha, if this was the case, it would become highly unlikely that Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye would not be in this movie. So, it looks like there’s at least a good chance of Hawkeye’s presence in Black Widow but for the time being, fans will have to keep on waiting just a little bit longer before it’s known for sure.
