Jennifer Garner to Star in New HBO Comedy by Lena Dunham

Published

on

It’s been 10 years since Jennifer Garner captivated audiences as the lead in Alias, the spy thriller that arguably launched the careers of both Garner and creator J.J. Abrams. The actress starred as Sydney Bristow, a soft-spoken CIA agent who kicks hard. Now, Garner is finally returning to TV, teaming up with an unexpected, but popular, creator.

A New Starring Role

Garner is going to star in an eight-episode HBO comedy series by Girls creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Conner. The current title is Camping. Although Garner is no stranger to comedy (13 Going On 30, anyone?), the role is a bit of a departure from Sydney Bristow, who was always cool, calm, and collected.

IMDB

The description for the show reads: “Walt’s 45th birthday was supposed to be a delightful weekend back to nature, at least according to his obsessively organized and aggressively controlling wife Kathryn (Garner). But when the camping trip gathers Kathryn’s meek sister, holier than thou ex-best friend and a free-spirited Tagalong in one place, it becomes a weekend of tested marriages and woman on woman crime that won’t soon be forgotten. Plus, bears.”

Details On Garner’s Character

Further details on Garner’s character were also provided, and they couldn’t be more perfect. She’s set to play “a controlling LA mom who is far less cheerful than her Lululemons imply. Kathryn controls the proceedings with an iron grip until she’s faced with a woman who undoes all her best-laid plans.” We can’t wait to find out more. At this stage, information on the show’s timeline is minimal, but we do know one thing.

IMDB

Production is scheduled to begin this Spring in LA. Hopefully, that means we could see a premiere later this year. Jennifer Garner’s casting is also the only detail we know as of yet, but creators Konner and Dunham had a lot of positive things to say about it.

Fans Of Alias Will Be Thrilled

“We love Jennifer’s restraint and comedic timing, and we can’t wait for the warmth and intelligence she’ll bring to our central character, Kathryn. It’s truly a dream to have her first on our call sheet.” They had one more thing to add that couldn’t be more exciting for Alias fans.

IMDB

“Now we just have to write her some stunts.” Can’t wait!
