Since 2016, Bond 25 has been in the works at MGM. Following many changes behind the scenes, filming finally began in Jamaica. To get fans excited, they unveiled some exclusive footage on set. The forthcoming film looks to be the biggest one yet!
A Look Into Paradise
The minute-long video showcases Daniel Craig & Co. working endlessly on the film. We also get the first glimpse of director Cary Fukunaga working behind the scenes. The Emmy nominated director replaced original director Danny Boyle back in September. While shooting in Jamaica, Craig received ankle surgery following an on-set mishap.
Wright Is Right
The short clip also finds the return of Jeffrey Wright as CIA operative Felix Leiter. He played the character in 2006’s Casino Royale and 2008’s Quantum of Solace. The character was briefly mentioned in 2015’s Spectre. Landing the role was a complete shock for the Washington D.C. native. “I got a call from my agent one day and he said, ‘Jeffrey, the Bond people want you to be in this next movie. They’re going to remake the franchise and they want you to play this CIA guy or something, I’ll send you the script,’ And I’m like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, some CIA guy. You mean Felix Leiter?’ I’m like what?!,” Wright told Couch Surfing. His love for the character stemmed from his appreciation for actor Jack Lord. In 1962, Lord portrayed the character in Dr. No.
Wright won’t be the only returning actor from the franchise. Léa Seydoux, Rory Kinnear, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, and Ralph Fiennes will also reprise their respective roles. Seydoux will be the first Bond girl since Eunice Gayson to appear in two films as the same character.
Lashana Coming Through
The video also features newcomer Lashana Lynch portraying Nomi. Lynch had her breakthrough role earlier this year as Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel. Something that has received praise is her character’s relationship with Carol Danvers. “We were just representing how women support each other. In every single generation, in every single area of this world, where two women connect and are able to just have each other’s back, organically, like that. It just feels really normal. It’s almost a bit bizarre talking about it, because I’m like, it’s just a friendship,” Lynch told Screen Rant.
Rami’s Bringing It
Portraying the film’s antagonist is Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek. His portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody gained the Los Angeles native numerous accolades. When it comes to working with Craig, Malek is ready for a wild ride. “I think Daniel has just done such an astounding job with just making him in a way relatable. Obviously, there’s a lot of things that none of us can do as James Bond, but he brings this class to it but this human factor, and he’s kind of cynical at the same time and ruthless, but you’re always rooting for him,” he told MovieWeb.
Around The World
Aside from Jamaica, Bond 25 will be heading to various locations. Last month, they arrived in Norway to film a driving sequence. In late July, they’ll be shooting in Matera, Italy. In recent years, Wonder Woman and Let’s Get Married were filmed in the city. They’re also making their way to London for a few scenes.
What’s In A Name?
As of this writing, there’s no official name for this movie. While Bond 25 sounds neat, the official name will probably be revealed during the teaser trailer. While Shatterhand was rumored to be the title, producer Barbara Broccoli denied it. Bond 25 will be released on April 8, 2020, in North America.
