These Iconic Film Roles Were Almost Played By Other Actors

Published

on

It’s hard to imagine some of our favorite movies with totally different actors cast in their main roles. Scheduling conflicts, personal issues, and various other reasons can force an actor or actress to reject or back out of a movie role before production begins. Can you even imagine a movie like Mr. and Mrs. Smith without Angelina? Well, we can’t either! Here are five movies that could have turned out very differently, had casting gone in a different direction.

Halle Berry Almost Played Sandra Bullock’s Role

Sandra Bullock took on the leading role of Annie Porter in the 1994 thriller Speed. Sandra starred in the film alongside Keanu Reeves and gave the performance of a lifetime. This movie role was pivotal for her career, as it shot her into a position of A-list stardom in Hollywood’s limelight. Strange to think it could have been Halle.

Johnny Depp As Ferris Bueller?

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is one of the most classic high school movies of all time. Matthew Broderick became one of the best-known young actors of his time when he successfully and memorably played the role of Ferris. However, Johnny Depp would have played the part had there not been a scheduling issue! This teenage comedy could have turned out so differently.

The Silence Of Michelle

Jonathan Demme, the director of The Silence of the Lambs, admittedly did not want Jodie Foster to have the role at one point. He really wanted Michelle Pfeiffer to be the face of this movie, but it obviously didn’t work out that way. Luckily for him and for Jodie, the movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture — and she won Best Actress, again!

Will Smith In Leather

Will Smith opted out of playing the role of Neo in The Matrix in order to star in Wild Wild West. This move proved to be an excellent choice on both Will and Keanu’s parts. Smith went on to star in movies like The Pursuit of Happyness and I Am Legend while Keanu Reeves will always be praised and applauded for his leading role in The Matrix.

Battle Over Mrs. Smith

Nicole Kidman was the first actress in line to play the role of Jane Smith but Brad Pitt simply didn’t vibe with her on set. When Angelina Jolie was cast instead, the chemistry between the two was undeniable. Mr. and Mrs. Smith is the movie that brought legendary actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie together for nearly twelve years!
