The Top 3 Worst Horror Movie Boyfriends

Published

on

Horror movies have their fair share of terrible tropes. From the “alone in the creepy house” to the classic monster jump scare, horror films often reuse the same suspense and shock techniques to spook us. However, the most irritating trope of them all is the terrible horror movie boyfriend. Here are the top three offenders, and why their girlfriends should have never given them a chance in the first place.

Seth Brundle from The Fly

In The Fly, scientist Seth Brundle meets science journalist Ronnie and the two begin a nerdy love affair. However, when Seth’s teleportation experiment goes wrong and he turns into a fly, he goes from a sweet boyfriend to a truly terrible partner.

Even though Seth realizes he’s changing for the worse, he still wants to hold onto Ronnie. When he finds out that she’s pregnant with their presumably fly-like child, he insists on her keeping the baby. First of all, Seth should be supporting his baby momma rather than pressuring her. And second, he should have gotten the hint that she wasn’t interested after his… transformation. Thank you, next.

Crispian Davison in You’re Next

If you’ve ever gone on a family vacation with your S.O., maybe you can empathize with this guy. It’s not always easy to love your family and boo when you have to spend days with then 24/7 in a small cabin or hotel room. However, boyfriend Crispian in You’re Next takes it a step too far.

Crispian hires a group of killers to wipe out his family and girlfriend Erin while on a vacation at the lake house. Since he apparently can’t express his emotions (try using “I” statements, Cris), he decides to get rid of them all. Worst of all, he’s too coward to do it himself.

Micah in Paranormal Activity

Micah in Paranormal Activity is by far the most redeemable on this list. In fact, Katie wasn’t the best partner to him, since she failed to mention her family was haunted by ghosts before they moved in together. However, Micah has some terribly annoying traits that would have made him a pain to live with regardless.

Micah is obsessed with filming. He catches everything on camera, which is the 2007 equivalent of the person who takes selfies all the time. Also, despite Katie begging him to leave the demons alone, he decides to taunt them and then summon them with an Ouija board. You can’t get much dumber than that.

When Real-Life Plays A Part In TV Plotlines

Not every show has its plot lined out from the moment the pilot airs, and still, sometimes real-life can get in the way. Even the best laid plans can go awry, and sometimes plotlines are created entirely to accommodate an actor’s unexpected personal issue. From pregnancies to off-set injuries (and of course plenty of on-set injuries), writers are reworking scripts so that you’d never know something else was happening behind the scenes. Think you know why an actor exited a show? We’ll bet you didn’t even realize that some major show plots happened out of serendipity. Read on to find out how in some cases, the truth really is stranger than fiction.
