Hidden Clues in ‘Stranger Things’ Return Date Teaser

Published

on

We’re officially returning to Hawkins, Indiana on July 4, 2019. At midnight on New Year’s Eve, Netflix announced the release date of the upcoming third season of its popular supernatural series, Stranger Things. But the video announcement included some secrets about the highly-anticipated season and fans were quick to spot them.

Countdown To Midnight

The teaser trailer displayed real footage from the 1985 Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, making it seem like it was broadcast on WIYZ in the fictional Hawkins, Indiana. The segment was interrupted by a promotional commercial for Starcourt Mall, a new setting in the upcoming season.

Fans already know about Starcourt Mall, revealed in an earlier teaser trailer. They patiently waited for some new information and when the footage became “grainy,” fans were immediately hooked.

A Hidden Message

When the footage becomes “grainy,” it’s interrupted by images of various computer coding. Fans have to be quick to spot the hidden message: “When blue and yellow meet in the West.” What could that possibly mean?

This isn’t the first time fans have seen this phrase. The coded message appeared in the Netflix show’s official behind-the-scenes companion book, Stranger Things: Worlds Turned Upside Down. No one knows exactly what the message could represent, but fans have already developed their own theories.

One Summer Can Change Everything

The answer might be in the upcoming season’s official poster, also released at midnight on New Year’s Eve. Eleven is dressed in blue and Mike is dressed in Yellow, and the two teen lovebirds are holding hands. If they’re going to “meet in the West,” is it because of their budding romance? Or, could it possibly mean their romance is heading towards trouble?

No one knows what to expect from the next season. All we know is that this season will change everything in Hawkins. Here’s our big question: Why do we have to wait until July 4?
