Greg Kinnear Slated To Star In Forthcoming ‘War Of The Worlds’ Remake

Hollywood can’t get enough of remakes. Almost every other day, we hear about them redoing another classic film for the new generation. One forthcoming remake seems to have found its star player.

This Means War

Greg Kinnear is set to be a part of the War of the Worlds‘ remake developed by Canal Plus and Fox. The Indiana actor is best known for his work on As Good as It Gets, Little Miss Sunshine, and House of Cards. Kinnear’s performance in As Good as It Gets landed him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. On the TV side, the actor has earned three Emmy nominations, including one win for 1995’s Talk Soup.

Syfy

Next year, the actor will star in the films Strange But TrueThe Red Sea Diving Resort, and A Family Vacation.

End Of The World

The eight-part miniseries is created by Howard Overman, who co-created the series Merlin and Future Man. The series is slated to take place in modern America. When talking about the remake, Overman wanted to make sure fans wouldn’t be disappointed.

The Hollywood Reporter

“I look forward to bringing our bold, fresh and relatable version, inspired by this much-loved story to a new audience,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Same Old Story

While you might think this is a simple remake, think again. The BBC currently have their own version of the classic H.G. Wells’ novel. Their three part miniseries includes Eleanor Tomlinson, Rafe Spall, Robert Carlyle, and  Rupert Graves.

Paramount Pictures

This isn’t the first time studios clamored to get their own version of the story out. In 2005, three versions of War of the Worlds was released to the public, including Steven Spielberg‘s box office hit. 2012 saw a sequel, a loose adaptation, and a mockumentary by three different studios. It’s safe to say there’s nothing better (and sometimes stranger) than competition.
