Social Media Demands Gordon Ramsay Be Cast As Angry Chef In ‘The Little Mermaid’

The Little Mermaid

It’s time to travel under the sea with Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. In July 2019, Disney announced actress Halle Bailey will be playing Ariel, but no more casting decisions have been made. Fans have rallied together, demanding that celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay should play the angry, loud cartoon chef Louis. That wouldn’t be a stretch for the chef.

Everyone’s Favorite Angry Chef

Gordon Ramsay has delighted fans since 2005 with his predictable outbreaks on his popular reality series, Hell’s Kitchen. With his hot temper, viewers have learned not to mess with him, especially in his kitchen. Ramsay is often loud, outspoken about his opinions, and he isn’t afraid of what people think of him.

While on the surface he appears mean, Ramsay—a devoted husband and father to five children—has demonstrated on several occasions that he, in fact, has a kind heart. He’s not always mean and angry. Because he’s both charismatic and fun to watch, he has become everyone’s favorite celebrity chef. We couldn’t imagine Hell’s Kitchen without him and now some fans can’t imagine The Little Mermaid without Ramsay, as well.

Perfect For The Role

Chef Louis has to be cast just right. While it’s not the most memorable character in The Little Mermaid, he adds hilarious comedic moments, particularly with Sebastian, Ariel’s crab. Louis is loud—shouting all the time at Sebastian—and he wants his kitchen to stay perfect. Doesn’t that sound like Ramsay?

That’s what Disney fans say. After Disney announced Halle Bailey would be playing Ariel [which received mixed remarks], fans reacted on Twitter that Ramsay should be cast as Louis if Disney wants the film to be a success. It started when a Twitter user (@gothjackieburk) voiced her opinion on social media: “Okay, hear me out, Gordon Ramsay as Prince Eric’s angry French chef, Louis.”

The tweet was that simple, but it quickly attracted over 200,000 likes and 50,000 retweets. Other Twitter users chimed in, with one person [@KaLeeBunny] adding: “If he [Ramsay] doesn’t wedge Sebastian between two pieces of bread and make him call himself an idiot sandwich, I’m calling the police.” This tweet is in reference to an iconic moment of Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen, a moment that will forever be associated with the celebrity chef.

Fans say they will riot if Ramsay isn’t cast as Louis. They would “die happy” if the chef were to don Louis’s classic white apron and chef hat in the live-action film, yelling at Sebastian while trying to catch him with a knife. Fans made sure to tag both Disney and Ramsay on social media, hoping to attract their attention. Ramsay hasn’t commented on the social media buzz, but who knows? He might actually be considered for the role. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Like any good Disney live-action movie, there will certainly be surprises along the way.

More Casting Considerations

Ramsay isn’t the only celebrity fans demand be featured in the live-action film, directed by Mary Poppins Returns director Rob Marshall, with music by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken, who composed the original music for the 1989 Disney animated film. Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play Ursula, while many fans would love to see celebrity chef Guy Fieri in the role due to his uncanny resemblance. Fieri even agreed, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be playing the iconic Disney villain this time.

Fans would also love to see Idris Elba play Ariel’s dad, King Triton. Room actor Jacob Tremblay is in talks to play Ariel’s friend, Flounder, and no one is arguing over that casting decision. Crazy Rich Asians actress Awkwafina is also considered for the role of Scuttle, the wise and friendly seagull. But as for Prince Eric? No word has been announced on who’s playing the role, but fans would love to see Nick Jonas, Harry Styles, Shawn Mendes, or Grease: Live star Jordan Fisher play everyone’s favorite prince. Regardless of who’s cast, we can’t wait to be a part of their world.
