‘Jane The Virgin’ Star Gina Rodriguez Sends An Undocumented Student To College

Published

Undocumented children have had it hard lately. Celebrities everywhere have stood up for these children and their families. So, a kind-hearted actress decided to change one lucky teen’s life.

A Different Campaign Idea

Jane The Virgin star, Gina Rodriguez, is lending a hand towards one undocumented high school student. Rodriguez had a discussion with Jane The Virgin creator, Jennie Snyder Urman, about the upcoming Emmy campaign for the show. The regular cost for an Emmy campaign will run around $150,000 to $500,000.

While they’ve done a couple in the past, Rodriguez wanted to use the money to help someone’s college dreams. Fortunately, Urman and The CW were on board for this mission. As a member of Hispanic Scholarship Fund’s board of directors, the star knows the importance of a college education.

Princeton Bound Star

For this task, Rodriguez decided to team up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles. The non-profit has seen its fair share of celebrity support from Michael Jackson, Tim Allen, and Stevie Nicks. With their assistance, the actress was able to give full tuition to a Hispanic lady headed to Princeton University.

“It’s taboo to talk about the money being spent, but it’s the reality. I think sharing this might inspire other people to do something similar,” the actress told The Hollywood Reporter.

Farewell To Jane

Jane The Virgin will have its fifth and final season this fall on The CW. Debuting in 2014, the show was featured in numerous top 10 lists from TV Guide, USA Today, and CNN. In 2015, Rodriguez won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series: Musical or Comedy. In total, she gained three Golden Globe nominations for the show.

Following the show, Rodriguez will join the cast of Netflix’s adult cartoon, Big Mouth. Her relationship with Netflix doesn’t end there. Next year, she’ll take the role of Carmen Sandiego in the forthcoming series based on the popular franchise. She’s also starring and producing the upcoming comedy film Someone Great. It’s so nice to see a celebrity with talent and a conscience.
