Unused ‘Ghostbusters’ Footage May Wind Up In ‘Ghostbusters 3’

Ghostbusters 3 will hit theaters next year, and fans can’t wait to see what’s in store. This new film finds a team of kids taking over as the new team on the scene. This forthcoming film is looking to bring some unseen footage to the big screen.

Take A Look At This

Ghostbusters Fan Fest took place in Los Angeles, and fans from all over came together to join the fun. During the event, Ghostbusters 3 director Jason Reitman dropped some surprising news to everyone in attendance. They unveiled some unused footage from the previous Ghostbusters films. As expected, they wanted to put them to good use.

“In making this movie, we found something kind of extraordinary. We went to Sony, and we said, ‘We’d really love to get back into the original dailies from 1984. Do you still have them?’ And we found them. They were in a mine in Kansas, and we shipped the boxes to Burbank. We’ve been going through the footage for reasons I cannot tell you, but along the way we found some really cool stuff,” he said on stage.

A Tall Task For Reitman

For Reitman, this is one of the most nerve-racking films in his career. His father Ivan directed and produced the first two Ghostbusters films. “I was terrified of the idea of making a Ghostbusters movie … it was a very intimidating thing. My father is the greatest storyteller I know, and made movies that defined my childhood, so the idea of being a director myself was a very scary decision,” he said at the event.

When it comes to the forthcoming movie, Reitman wants to bring it back to the old days. “One of my favorite things about the movies at that time was that they can be funny and scary at the same time, and scary for young people … I want to scare children,” he also said at Ghostbusters Fan Fest.

The New Faces

Filming for Ghostbusters 3 is slated to begin this July in Calgary. While there are four kids roaming as Ghostbusters, only two of them have been revealed so far. Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace will be playing brother and sister. Many have expected some Stranger Things representation in the film. The second season of the popular Netflix show had a strong Ghostbusters vibe. In the episode Trick or Treat, Freak, the kids all wear Ghostbusters outfits. Wolfhard was kept in the dark during his audition. “It’s all secret. It’s like completely, ya know — I didn’t even know what I was auditioning for when I auditioned for it,” he told MTV.

Following a recurring role on The Young and the Restless, the gigs started piling up for Grace. Recently, she played a young Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. She’s set to star in the forthcoming films Annabelle Comes Home and Scoob. Their mother will be played by Carrie Coon, who is best known for her work on The Leftovers.

Who You Gonna Call?

The original Ghostbusters cast is also rumored to show up in the new film. In an interview with Parade, Sigourney Weaver revealed that she’s coming back with Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. Reitman managed to keep quiet on the whole situation.

Ghostbusters 3 won’t be the last time we see the franchise in action. Dan Aykroyd has his eye set on a Ghostbusters prequel, and he wants Reitman involved. “I’ve written “Ghostbusters High,” where they meet in New Jersey in 1969 and we’re looking to do that as probably a glorified feature or pilot within the next maybe five years. And it would lead to a television project and I thought of him immediately for that. It’s on his desk but that’s years away from the current project. But it’s a neat idea for a prequel. Imagine casting the three characters as teenagers,” he told The Canadian Press.

Ghostbusters 3 is set to arrive on July 10, 2020.
