‘Ghostbusters 3’ Announces Cast, Including ‘Stranger Things’ Star Finn Wolfhard

Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! Jason Reitman, co-writer and director of the upcoming 2020 Ghostbusters 3, revealed in March 2019 a few members of the film’s cast, including Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard. While we don’t know much about the movie, we’re already excited to watch a new generation of Ghostbusters.

Like Father, Like Son

Jason Reitman, son of Ghostbusters’ filmmaker Isaac Reitman, promised the upcoming sequel would be nothing like the 2016 Ghostbusters remake, starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon. Instead, the sequel would be a nice follow-up to the original 1980’s movies, except with a new team of Ghostbusters.

The third film in the franchise will follow a team of paranormally-inclined teenage heroes. They’ll undergo their own missions and will probably introduce a new generation of viewers to the original Ghostbusters films.

1980’s Remakes

It was announced Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard was cast in the upcoming sequel. Wolfhard has grown accustomed to starring in 1980’s-inspired films and television shows. Stranger Things takes place in the ‘80s and the actor, as the show’s Mike Wheeler, even recreated Ghostbusters in the Netflix show’s second season. In addition, Wolfhard also plays Richie Tozier in the remakes of Stephen King’s It. It makes sense why he would be a perfect choice to play in another ‘80s remake.

Reitman also announced Captain Marvel star McKenna Grace will be featured in the sequel, along with The Leftovers’ Carrie Coon. The director stated, “Meet the family.” So, what does this mean?

Meet The Family

We’re expected to believe Coon’s character is Ghostbusters’ Peter Venkman’s daughter. Does that mean Wolfhard and Grace’s characters are his grandchildren? If so, have they inherited their grandfather’s talents for finding ghosts?

Not much has been announced about the 2020 sequel. Many fans are speculating if Bill Murray will make an appearance, while others think Wolfhard and Grace’s characters are actually related to Egon Spengler, played by the late Harold Ramis. Regardless of the teenagers’ connection to the original film, we’re sure the sequel will be a great homage to one of the best film installments of the 1980s.
