Gerard Butler Is Headed Back To The Big Screen With ‘Angel Has Fallen’ in 2019

Gerard Butler is ready to head off on another exciting exploit! The actor is set to star in Angel Has Fallen, playing Secret Agent Mike Banning once again. Angel Has Fallen is the third entry in the Fallen series, following Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen.

Another Thrilling Adventure

In both films, Butler played a brave hero who helped to rescue the president from terrorist attacks. However, the third film, rumored to be the last in this trilogy, takes a turn.

In the upcoming film, Secret Agent Banning is no longer seen as a hero. He is on the run after being accused of assassinating the president. While star Aaron Eckhart won’t be returning, the rest of the cast is packed with stars. Rounding out the cast are Morgan Freeman, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lance Reddick, Nick Nolte, Danny Huston, Piper Perabo, and Tim Blake Nelson.

A Smash Hit

While reviews were mixed on the first two films, audiences have loved them. The movies brought in $375 million at the box office worldwide. Shortly after London Has Fallen hit theaters, this third film was greenlit.

The upcoming Fallen film is directed by Ric Roman Waugh and will be released on August 23, 2019. Butler himself has compared this new movie with the 2017 film Logan, calling this one much more introspective than the previous Fallen films.

An Action-Packed Career

For Butler, this trilogy is a continuation of his thrilling roles on the big screen. He most recently in thrillers Den of Thieves and Hunter Killer. However, that’s not all the actor has in the works.

Butler is planning to launch a new franchise Afterburn, which is based on the graphic novel of the same name. The story is set after a giant solar flare destroys the Eastern Hemisphere, turning it into a mutant-filled wasteland. Butler is the head of a group of thieves that set out in the area to steal rare objects. Until then, fans at least have Angel Has Fallen to look forward to.
