Game Of Thrones Season 8 Premiere Date Finally Released

Published

on

HBO decided they kept fans waiting long enough, and have finally announced the Game of Thrones Season 8 release date. They took to Twitter and posted, “April 14. #ForTheThrone” along with a short teaser featuring the Stark sisters and Snow roaming their family’s crypts. Fans are already reeling about the new season, while actress Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) says they will likely “need therapy” after the season finale.

Season 7 Leaves Fans On The Edge Of Their Seats

So far, we know that the eighth season will consist of six two-hour episodes. Fans reasonably predict a long and fierce battle with the Army of the Dead and hope for a resolution with the Jon-Daenerys storyline after the Season 7 finale.

Season 7 ended with two major twists. First, we find out who Jon Snow’s true parents are (we previously thought Ned was his father, when in fact he was born to another Stark). We also watched in horror as The Night King and his army break down The Wall and charge into Westeros.

New GoT Promo Gets Fans Riled Up

Luckily for fans, HBO did release a short promo video along with the release date. The promo shows Jon, Arya, and Sansa walking through the crypts of Winterfell, passing Lyanna, Ned, and Catalyn’s remains. The voice of Ned Stark echoes, “You might not have my name, but you have my blood,” something he told Jon in Season 1, a clever line by writers from the very beginning. Fans are hoping this could foreshadow a Stark survivor or two. However, the official trailer has not been released, so we are still quite in the dark when it comes to the final season’s plot.

Season 8 An Epic Battle Against “Certain Death”

Producer Bryan Cogman says the finale will surprise most viewers, but hopefully satisfy them in the end. He commented, “[Season 8] is about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death.”

If we’ve learned anything about GoT so far, its that you shouldn’t get too attached to any characters. It’s likely some of our favorites will fall to another’s sword fighting for their honor. But we won’t know until April 14th.

When Real-Life Plays A Part In TV Plotlines

Not every show has its plot lined out from the moment the pilot airs, and still, sometimes real-life can get in the way. Even the best laid plans can go awry, and sometimes plotlines are created entirely to accommodate an actor’s unexpected personal issue. From pregnancies to off-set injuries (and of course plenty of on-set injuries), writers are reworking scripts so that you’d never know something else was happening behind the scenes. Think you know why an actor exited a show? We’ll bet you didn’t even realize that some major show plots happened out of serendipity. Read on to find out how in some cases, the truth really is stranger than fiction.
