‘Four Weddings And A Funeral’ Gets Hulu Treatment From Mindy Kaling

Four Weddings And A Funeral was a surprise hit when it was released in 1994. Making over $245 million, it became the highest-grossing British film ever. Now, it’s making a comeback on a popular streaming service.

An Outrageously Funny Affair

Mindy Kaling will give the film an anthology adaptation over on Hulu. Joining her as an executive producer is Richard Curtis, who was the film’s writer. For Kaling, this is another day at the office with Hulu. The service renewed her sitcom The Mindy Project back in 2015.

“Mindy embodies Hulu. She’s funny, she’s highly intelligent, she’s confident and stylish. She’s somebody that we really want to be in business with,” Hulu’s Craig Erwich told The Hollywood Reporter. The Mindy Project aired its final episode back in November.

Different Sets Of Faces

This modern-day take on the film is slated to feature a ton of diversity in its cast. “I’m talking Pakistani people, I’m talking black people, I’m talking a couple old people but not too many,” Kaling said at the Hulu Upfront event. The series is slated to run for 10 episodes.

Casting news will be announced in the near future. The show is expected to premiere on Hulu in 2019.

Another Project In Her Schedule

Kaling has been busy since saying goodbye to The Mindy Project. In the film world, she appeared in A Wrinkle In Time, and she’ll star in Ocean’s 8, which arrives on June 9. Currently, she’s filming the comedy Late Night, which stars Emma Thompson and John Lithgow.

NBC

Back on NBC, Kaling stars in the sitcom Champions, which she co-created with Charlie Grandy. This is her first show back on the network since The Office. Throughout all of this, she manages to spend time with her infant daughter Katherine.
