In a new interview with Brooklyn Magazine, Killam talks about his impressions of Trump from his experience working with him on an episode that Trump hosted.
Killam told the publication, “It was not fun, and most of the cast and writers were not excited to have him there. I didn’t get the feeling that he was excited to be there, and it felt like a move for ratings from both sides. What you see is what you get with him, really. I mean, there was no big reveal. He struggled to read at the table read, which did not give many of us great confidence. Didn’t get the jokes, really. He’s just a man who seems to be powered by bluster.”
Killam has since moved on from the sketch television show and is currently playing King George in Hamilton. When he was asked about the criticism Trump had for the SNL cast and the play after Vice President Mike Pence received a bit of a lecture after he saw the show, all he had to say was “Yeah, well, the president is a moron.”
This is the president’s opening monologue for the show in question. Trump has become increasingly critical of the show and the impersonations of him and his staff since he took office in January.
