Floyd Mayweather

In boxing, Floyd Mayweather was one of the most dominant forces in the ring. His fights drew global attention with over $1.3 billion earned in combined PPV sales. Now, he’s surrounded with so much cash as a retired athlete. Fortunately, he’s giving a lucky fan some of his earnings.

You Could Win Big

On Instagram, Mayweather posted a video of himself sitting with two stacks of cash on each side. In front of him lies a plethora of expensive watches he purchased over the years. The video is captioned, “Who could use $10k on a Wednesday? My bags are too heavy. Here’s your chance to win a $10000 stack.” All fans have to do it follow Arena Up on Instagram and tag two friends on his original post.

If You’ve Got It, Flaunt It?

As expected, Mayweather’s constant flaunting of money has rubbed some folks the wrong way. “Poor Soul, I really feel sorry for this man. May God come into His life and fill that emptiness he feels,” Instagram user sinner_saved201 said on the contest post. That didn’t stop Mayweather from purchasing an $18 million watch last year. “I bought this watch from the best jeweler in the world, hands down @tadashi1980. He has better prices than any other jeweler that I’ve ever done business with ever and trust me, I’ve bought jewelry from every jeweler in NYC, Vegas, LA, Detroit, Houston and Miami,” Mayweather stated on the social media platform.

The Billion Dollar Man

During his time in the ring, Mayweather earned over $1 billion from his bouts. In 2017, he broke records with his fight against Conor McGregor. Mayweather walked away from the fight with $275 million. McGregor earned around $80 million for the same fight. As the first billionaire boxer, he joins Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan in the Billionaire’s Club. Getting to the top wasn’t easy for Mayweather. “I can remember 1987 when I had my first amateur fight in Michigan, weighing 64lb. I was 10 years old. I was the youngest and smallest guy on my team. I can remember what I ate. There was this restaurant called Ponderosa and my dad made me eat a steak. I was happy. It was a first-round knockout. I slept with my trophy for two weeks,” Mayweather told Telegraph journalist Gareth A Davies.

A Rematch For The Ages?

Last year, Mayweather made a return to the ring with an exhibition match again kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa. While he earned $9 million for the bout, the boxer stated he was still retired. Since that match, however, there’s been rumblings of a rematch against Manny Pacquiao. The two had a highly publicized fight on May 2, 2015. The bout ended with Mayweather winning by unanimous decision. “[Pacquiao] definitely had his moments in the fight. As long as I moved on the outside, I was able to stay away from those. He’s a really smart fighter. Only when he stayed in the pocket was he able to do what he needed to do,” Mayweather told Washington Post journalist Joe DePaolo. Mayweather won the WBO welterweight title, but that didn’t last long. Two months later, he was stripped of it due to holding belts in different weight classes.

Taking The Fight To Other Places

While he might be looking for another bout, Mayweather is busy with post-boxing ventures. Last year, he opened Mayweather Boxing + Fitness in Los Angeles. Unlike most gyms, this one is tech-savvy with Mayweather training folks through VR headsets. This year, Mayweather revealed he was partnering with Daily Number. The fantasy sports app, which launched last year, has already been included in ESPN and Sports Illustrated. No matter what, Mayweather’s pile of cash will continue to grow outside of the ring.
