Five Musicians That Left Bands Before They Became Huge

Published

on

The chances of making it in a band are very small today. With many talented musicians, the competition is always stiff. As expected, the pressure of being in band cause several people to rethink their plans. These musicians had the extreme misfortune of leaving a band before it blew up.

Fell On Black Days

What do Nirvana and Soundgarden have in common? Aside from being influential grunge bands, they both kicked out Jason Everman. In February 1989, Everman joined Nirvana on guitars. Following a summer tour, he was removed from the band due to his behavior on the road. In April 1990, he joined Soundgarden, but was also discarded a few months later for the same reason. In 1994, Everman dropped the music life to join the Army. Following tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, he went to Columbia University for his Bachelor of Arts in philosophy.

Anarchy In The U.K.

In 1975, Glen Matlock teamed up with Johnny Rotten to form The Sex Pistols. The iconic U.K. punk took the world by storm with their album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols. By the time of its release, Matlock had already left the group due to personal issues. After his exit, Matlock formed Rich Kids, which were influential in the British power pop scene.

Who Do You Think You Are?

Could you imagine the Spice Girls without Baby Spice? Well, it was almost a thing when Michelle Stephenson joined the group. Things were going fine until arguments caused her to be removed. After her exit, Emma Bunton was asked to become a part of girl group history. Stephenson would go on to be a presenter for various TV networks in the U.K.

Live And Let Die

Guns N’ Roses without Slash probably would’ve went a different route. In 1985, guitarist Tracii Guns started the band with vocalist Axl Rose. They were ready to take off, but a rift between its two founding members was growing. That same year, Rose kicked Guns out of the band and brought in Slash. Following his exit, Guns continued playing music with his longtime band L.A. Guns. That group saw success with Hot 100 singles “The Ballad of Jayne” and “It’s Over Now.”

Say My Name

Platinum selling group Destiny’s Child had a completely different lineup when it started. Aside from Beyonce and Kelly Rowland, the group included LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett. In 1999, Roberson and Luckett confronted Mathew Knowles (a.k.a. Beyonce’s dad) about his supposed money grubbing ways. When the music video for “Say My Name” dropped, the two were shocked to see they were completely removed from the band. In their place were Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin. Unfortunately, Franklin got the boot five months later due to not showing up to performances. All three former Destiny’s Child members have bounced back, though. Roberson joined R&B Divas: Atlanta, Luckett dove into a successful solo career, and Franklin became an actress.

Beverly Hills, 90210: Was Luke Perry Team Dylan or Team Brandon?

Some television shows come into our lives at the exact right moment, so that they become inextricably bound with our memories of those complicated coming-of-age years, Beverly Hills 90210 is without a doubt one of those shows. We all tuned in week after week, year after year because the drama was just so addicting. The love triangles! The will-they-won’t-theys! Meanwhile, when the cameras weren’t rolling, the cast was up to plenty of off-set antics of their own. Disclaimer: after you read about what went down, it might have you rethinking everything — were those angsty expressions just good acting, or were they bringing some real-life drama into it?
