This Woman Finally Found The U.S. Soldier She Fell In Love With 50 Years Ago

Some say true love–the real thing–only happens once in a lifetime, and if real love is lost, fate promises that it will come back around.

Do those who have suffered heartbreak believe that? Not usually, but this couple would tell you it’s true.

Hold on. Life might surprise you.

The Story

Back in 1962, Stephen Walbert was a navy officer stationed in Trinidad when he fell in love with native, Jennifer Meyerink. Both were teenagers. Her parents weren’t supportive and sent her to England to be educated.

Stephen knew he couldn’t take care of her. The two had to let go of their love, but not without complete heartbreak. Before saying their goodbyes, Stephen gave Jennifer his military dog tag and told her to keep it safe until fate brought them back together again.

Then Tragedy Struck While They Were Apart

Both Stephen and Jennifer got married and had children. Stephen became a father to one son and Jennifer became a mother to two. But strangely, both Stephen and Jennifer lost their spouses the same year — in 2014.

A year after their losses, Jennifer asked her sister to help her find Stephen. She had never stopped thinking about their lost love. Jennifer’s sister found him and he and Jennifer started emailing back and forth. A few months later, they reunited in Toronto, Canada.

That’s when Jennifer pulled out the dog tag Stephen gave her at 17-years-old. Little did she know, Stephen had a surprise of his own. A proposal. The two were engaged.

Death Came Knocking, So Love Kicked It Aside

Stephen moved to Canada to be with his love, only to return to the U.S. soon after. He was diagnosed with leukemia and didn’t know how many days he’d have left, so he expressed his desire to marry the love of his life as soon as possible.

On the 11th of September, surrounded by family, the two said “I do” at Rochester General Hospital in New York.

“I told fate, ‘Move aside–I am coming because if I don’t marry her now it may not happen,'” said Walbert. “I said, ‘I can’t let her slip by me one more time.'”

What an amazing story. We all hope the best for Stephen and Jennifer. May he live to see many anniversaries with his love.

Situated in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Monica, California, the almost 3,000 acre plot of land upon which Neverland Ranch was constructed has recently been placed back on the market. Nowadays, the one-time residence of international pop sensation Michael Jackson is going by a new name: Sycamore Valley Ranch. Much of the estate is as it was during the 15 years Jackson called it his home, except for a few glaring differences – namely, the removal of the fun-fair rides that gave the home its whimsical name Neverland Ranch. The very last vestiges of where the carousel once spun are still visible as you go through the grounds. Read on for an in-depth view of the ranch.
